Today was a day of many museums. We left the hotel this morning around 10 AM and went to visit the Alte Pinakothek where I saw Durer’s Self-Portrait (the most important piece of art in the museum) and one of El Greco’s paintings. I was really excited to see the El Greco because I love his artwork. Right after that we headed over to the Neue Pinakothek where I got to see a bunch of Van Gogh paintings (Vase of Sunflowers) and a bunch of German Romanic landscape pictures. I loved the Romantic landscape pictures and my favorite was Johann Nepomuk Schodlberger’s “Ideal Landscape” which had a beautiful sunset.
After the first two museums we got a break to go to lunch. I headed towards Marienplatz to go to the Viktualien Market, which is this 100 square meter area where you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh meat, as well as restaurant food. I ate lunch for less than three euros (fresh bread and a huge container of strawberries). It was yummy!
Then we had to head back to the museum area to visit the Modern Pinakothek. This was an interesting museum-they definitely had some art that I wouldn’t really consider art. My favorite was a random thread of yarn going through the wall and the floor. It was just very random. This museum also had some Picassos and one Dali.
From the museum I headed back to the hotel to rest for a little bit before going out. Around 7:30 we left to go to the Hofbrau House. Everyone got a little tipsy and ate dinner (of course I just ate dinner). It was a very fun environment to eat in-very noisy and friendly. We left around 9:30 to go back to the hotel. At about 10:30 we left the hotel to go clubbing. We went to this place at Odeonplatz where they have about thirty clubs. The dancing here is a little different than the dancing at home. Occasionally guys dance with other guys. It was a lot of fun though…. Now, it’s definitely time for bed….
