Statement of belief

African-Americans, Hispanics, Jews, women and transgendered people do not deserve to be judged or punished for their race, ethnicity or gender.

Most of that comes from disturbing things I read on-line or saw on television last week, but the bit about Jews came from a statement at a Halloween party. We were discussing the Roman Empire, and the way they treated Christians, Druids, Germanic tribes, Jews...when the slightly inebriated father of the hostess said, "Everyone attacks the Jews, and it's because they deserve it. I knew a couple of Jews, and if they weren't so whiney maybe people wouldn't keep trying to kill them." I, as you might imagine, disagree. I'd be happy to break it down if anyone doesn't understand why.

My Jewish great-grandparents fled the pogroms in Austria, Hungary and Transylvania, which is why they came to this country and I came to be born. If those who are ethnically Jewish are to be eliminated, I'm on the list.

No one deserves to be murdered, even if - and especially not because - they're Jewish.
