New music, or at least new to me, that is awesome...
Bat For Lashes
Brandon Erkilla recommended this band to me. It's a one woman band, and she is amazingly talented. Drop dead incredible voice, one of the best I've heard. Her music is like a combination of Bjork, VAST, Kate Bush, Tori Amos, and Harmonium era Vanessa Carlton. It's etheral, its very powerful, and its breathtaking.
Both of her albums are amazing, can't find a bad track on either of them. I think Two Suns is the better one though. That's her second album, her first is called Fur and Gold. Best tracks are "Siren Song", "Horse and I", "What's A Girl To Do", "Glass", "Traveling Woman" and "Moon and Moon" Hell, they're all amazing. I haven't been so floored by an artist in years.
Van She
This is half of the Australian electronic group Pnau's side project. The other half formed Teenager and wasn't very good, but Van She is amazing. There's a lot of synth rock bands out there these days, most of them are average at best, but Van She are the indisputable masters of synth rock. They write downright catchy driving tracks that you would easily hear in any decent club, but their talent really shines through on their explosive choruses where there is a lot going on. Your ears won't know what to do.
They only have one full length album, V. Best tracks are "Cat & The Eye", "It Could Be The Same", "The Sea", and "Kelly"
Friendly Fires
The average synth rock bands I was talking about? Friendly Fires is about one of them, falling somewhere in between Does It Offend You, Yeah? and Datarock. They implement a good dose of funk in their nu-rave, and just about any track on the album could probably be an indie rock hit. They can make a pretty impressive wall of sound, and that's most evident on "Jump In The Pool" with its huge chorus and layered vocals. Other great tracks are "Skeleton Boy" and "Photobooth" Album is self titled. New one is almost on the way.
