On a MySpace group, long long ago, there was the disrespecting of beliefs. A member posted a topic about shapeshifting. Subsequent replies received some "ha ha"s and then a 'humorous' graphic asking for the person to make a saving throw against reality. The graphic was called "orgesave.gif". I know that from somewhere I've encountered the original definition of 'pagan' as being a "peg in the ground" or a "stick in the mud", but I'm having trouble tracking down where I actually got some vague form of corroborative evidence for this definition. If you had to give a group the highlights of "pagan history" in about 3 hours, how would you organize it and what would you be sure to include? Would you explore the possible beginnings of religion, skip to classical civilizations, or emphasize the Neopagan movement in all its, ummm, glory ( Read more... )

I've been conversing with a friend who is Christian on the topic of paganism. For him, it's hard to let go of the dictionary definitions given to him. A lot of them are inaccurate, and when I listen to them, I'm always thinking "not really, not exactly, not quite." The term "pagan" for him, is very broad.
