So the evening wasn't wasted. Hallie and I split up at The Bronze. No doubt she enjoyed an evening of good, care-free vengeance. I envied her. At least for the care-free part ( Read more... )

"Hey, Tucker." I'm a little surprised to see him here, after the events of the other day. He didn't really get along with everyone else, but this being the only real magic shop in town, I guess it's hard to avoid coming back. But the fact that he knows so much about magic, strong magic, makes me wary around him. I only hope that Anya doesn't tell him something he should't know. She's good like that.

Well, if he's gonna schmooze Halfrek, there wouldn't be much more I can get out of her. She doesn't seem so eager to talk anymore for some reason, too. Must be the one night stand getting to her. I smirk and cross my arms over my chest.

Now I guess I'll have to go back to quesioning Anya instead.

"Thanks, but for some reason your friend here was kind of sketchy on getting me what I needed the last time, but I think it may have had something to do with the fact that I wanted such an old text."

I turn to the shopkeeper, "But she did say she was making me copies...so my dear, do you have those for me, or not?"

I nod at Dawn who acknowledged me when I walked in, then pause. Perhaps I can get some information from her.

"Did I hear you discussing William the Bloody when I entered?"

William the Bloody? Another of Spike's nicknames? It looks like Tucker knows something about the past as well. That's really annoying. And typical. Of course everyone in the world knows more about everything that little Dawnie.

"Yeah, we were. Halfrek here was just telling me about the passionate - but brief - affair they'd had some time ago." Emphasis on the brief. Usually I'm not that bitchy, but I figure she well deserves it.

"Why, do you know him too?" Right, they ran into each other that night at the Bronze, but I don't remember if they acted weird cause I was pretty much kinda wasted.

"Other than his current state of affairs of hanging out with you lot, not, not really. I know of him, anyone who spends enough time with demon history books is bound to come across his name once or twice, as he was easily the second most sadistic, murderous vampire in history."

Damn, this conversation of the past really tells me nothing of his present. I wanted to know if the spell worked. But she clearly has not run into the peroxide punk since last night.

I have a seat at the table Dawn is sitting at. I wasn't invited to sit, but I don't care.

I motion for the woman from the cemetery last night to join us, and I smile at them both.

Okay. Spike's status goes from 'really evil' to 'almost supremely evil'. This is all very interesting. I'm learning a lot about Spike's past, but nothing of the deal between him and Angel. Which is what I really want.

"Obviously I haven't spent enough time around demon history books, then," I smile. Actually, it's not that, it's that everyone else won't let me at them, but I don't mention that. It's just not cool. "He was second to who? Angel?" Not exactly a wild guess, but whatever.

"Angel...Angelus, yeah. That's right. Woo. That guy was BRUTAL. I once read an account of how there was this puritan vampire slayer who was trying to stop him, and Angelus slaughtered the whole guy's family, but let him live, so he could see the torment of an empty home. That's what made Angelus the dangerous one. Spike loved the murder and the kill, but it was Angelus who liked being a monster. He liked the mental torture almost as much as the physical. It's really old school history, but it's not anything I'm sure you're too interested in."

I'm not even sure how I got suckered into this conversation, but it WAS interesting talking ancient vampire history. I read a text concerning the Order of Aurelis once, and found myself deeply engrossed with the major players in vampire history. There was something elegant, yet brutal in their memoirs. I don't know...not a crowd that I'd ever fraternize with, but definitely made for some good bed time material.

"That puritan's name was Holtz, and he wasn't a vampire slayer...he was a demon hunter, and he was hardly a saint himself."

I am standing in the doorway, but I had heard just enough of the man's comment as I was coming in that I felt the need to contribute. After all, this was something that was relatively topical in my life.

I had, after all, just witnessed Holtz kidnap Connor mere days ago.

I walk into the store, aware that Giles is somewhere behind me.

"Hi y'all. The name's Fred Burkle, and I'm with Angel Investigations."

"Hi, Fred." I wonder if she'll be staying in the house too. Honestly, we're kinda running out of room, especially if Tara's moving back in, too.

Wow. It's like I've got my own personal walking multiple-tome encyclopedia here. How does everyone know so much more than I do? I'm so sheltered. It sucks. Although I'm working on fixing that, now.

"Angel Investigations? Are you looking for him? Angel, I mean?" I ask the new arrival. She looks young. Really young. Although we're all pretty young here, can't really judge on age.

"And how do you know about Holtz?"

I slide back and motion to a chair for the new arrival.

Angel Investigations? Wasn't that a place in LA? Another Scooby jamboree this is turning out to be.

I also turn and look over at my cemetery friend, maybe I should go join her in chit-chat, as she is as easily disturbed by this crew as I am.

"I happen to know Holtz because he was far from dead and far from in the past. He was a thorn in our side in LA up until recently when he kidnapped Angel's son and dashed off with him into a demon dimension. Between that blow and the news about what's been happenin' here in Sunnydale, he's been really not himself."

I grab a chair at the table and sit, might as well stay and get acquainted with these people, as I may be spending quite an amount of time with 'em.

"So yeah, I'm looking for Angel. I'm worried about him."

This is promising. Anyanka really does seem to have returned to form. Little Dawn is involved with Spike, which can only end in badness for her, believe me, I know. I've met an intriguing human man, who doesn't seem to be nearly as obnoxious of the rest of them. What a wonderful day!

"Anyanka, dear, there's really no need to get so upset. Just because all of these humans have invaded your place of business, which we really should talk about, by the way, I mean, what self-respecting demon runs a shop, there's no reason to get rude."

After all, just because we aren't white hats doesn't mean we can't have manners. And on a day like today, what's there to be angry about.

"I'm feeling quite chipper actually. Does anyone feel like making a wish? That would just make my day complete."

I can feel my nails digging into the palms of my hands as Anya opens her mouth. Of course, I don't expect any more from her, she's always been tactless, but that... that's just none of her business. I try to breathe and appear calm without turning red or screaming at her. Stupid vengeance demons and their stupid ways ( ... )
