R.I.P. Our 'Enery

May 02, 2011 13:58

I was saddened to hear today of the death of boxing legend Sir Henry Cooper.

Our  'Enery, as he was affectionately known, was probably best remembered for putting Cassius Clay (later Muhammed Ali) on the canvass with his famous left hook back in the early 1960's.

Boxing reporter Colin Hart said today that Henry 76, had deteriorated badly since the death of his wife Albina who was 'his left arm and his right arm' and it seems therefore, died of a broken heart.

As someone who spent time in the boxing promotions business and got to know many of the boxers, promoters and writers, my heart goes out to Henry's family and friends. He will be a great loss to the sport.
