Food Experiments

Got some new things to cook with!

1) Raw whole milk: Tastes the same, except stronger and little more earthy. I still don't like the flavor of milk and probably won't drink it straight, but I like the thought of cooking with an entirely raw, natural product. I'm not dead-set on raw, though; lightly pasteurized, unhomogenized whole milk would also be fine.

2) Raw milk cheese (pepper jack): Pepper jack isn't my favorite kind of cheese, but I wanted to try a raw milk cheese. Like the milk, the flavor is just more earthy. Nothing extraordinary.

3) Raw cacao powder: I mixed some in with my whole milk just to try. Bitter, though that's what I expected. I think it'll be good to sprinkle in with a variety of foods -- I especially want to try it with some fruits.

4) Coconut oil: Haven't used it yet, but looking forward to testing it as a cooking oil. It's pricey, but it smells lovely! I'm thinking of using it when I make chicken fried steak, since it's supposed to be a great frying oil.

Looking forward to some more experiments this weekend!
