April steps into her office, setting her purse on her desk and her bag in her chair, smiling at the two cards in her hand: one from all the interns and the other from Laurie.
GRATUITOUS AGRON CAMEOS FOR MY BIRTHDAY. BEST PRESENT EVER.
When she turns around to open her bag, she sees the bright blue eyes and wide smile of Nathan Gates before he envelopes her in a tight hug.
IF ONLY WE COULD ALL BE SO LUCKY.
She hears him say something to Laurie in a low voice, followed by Laurie's reply and then a quiet chuckle. April just shakes her head and smiles at their flirty banter, grateful that this one of the times she's out of ear shot of whatever innuendo laden comment Nathan's made. She knows it just how they are, and that they are just having fun, but the last thing she wants is any ( ... )

I really didn't want to make this angsty, but then this idea came along and it was kind of impossible NOT to have April's issues come out a little. BUT SIMON WILL MAKE IT BETTER.
Did he lock himself out of the apartment to wait for her WITH FOOD ON THE STOVE?
HE DID INDEED. I mean, you know, he had the spare key. But that's Simon for you. HE MEANS WELL, BUT SOMETIMES... XD

Simon returns once more, setting down a knife and two forks, and when April looks up at him, his expression is uncertain.
"I'm sorry," he says, frowning lightly, "I know it's not right, but I got to the bakery kind of late and it was all they had left."
April smiles and shakes her head. "It's perfect," she says softly, fighting the momentary sting in her eyes as she returns her gaze to the cake.
MY HEART CANNOT TAKE IT.
They had sex the night before, but after a day of thinking he forgot about her birthday and thinking she wouldn't see him at all tonight, having him now makes her want him even more, makes her want to keep him close and not let go ( ... )

I LOVE A GOOD KEYBOARD SMASH.
I know I've mentioned this before, but I can't say it often enough: I think Simon's conscientiousness as a lover is probably my favorite thing about him. He's so utterly attentive to April's wants and needs, always thinking of her pleasure before his own. It's so, so lovely.
I love it too. It's such a juxtaposition from before, from that utter selfishness of an addict to this new selflessness. He cares more for her than he does for himself, and his happiness hinges on hers.

OH MY APRIL! I'm with Leah--I fucking love April Newcastle like the bamf she is. Oh my heart, every time she takes things inwards and blames herself, I'm like STOP IT YOU FLAWLESS ANGEL but it makes me love her even more.
All this AND a Daddy Gates appearance?! Lovely fic is lovely.

I love so much how you guys love April so much. It's such an amazing feeling to know that I've created this character that's so loved.
And dude, it's kind of to the point where I almost can't have an April fic without some kind of appearance from Daddy Gates. I LOVE THEIR RELATIONSHIP RIDICULOUS AMOUNTS.
