I made it back ok from Free Spirit Beltane (aka Pagan Sex Camp, as
tazira so aptly described it) and am mostly recovered. I got somewhat dehydrated, but on the plus side I seem to have escaped with at most only a tiny amout of sun-induced pinkness. (I'm starting to wonder if my body has a problem retaining sodium, but that's a question for another time.) I had a fun time at camp. I got to say hi to a bunch of people I know and meet some new ones. As always there was too much to do and too little time, but I did get to spend a bunch of time with
anotherjen and that was more important to me.
I did run into a bunch of people I already knew, most of whom I knew from scene events. I had a medium-hard time recognizing them outside of the dungeon. This isn't a surprise, really, but it is interesting to note how much of a challenge it can be to recognize people out of context, even after seeing them a bunch of times in context. Then again I have enough problems recognizing people from one meeting to the next without a context switch!
The dungeon was quite nice. It had a wood floor (basketball court) and was surprisingly well heated. It was also quiet enough, at least while we were there, that it was easy to find eqipment.
Tonight I made possibly my best hybrid ramen yet. I'm sure you all know the artificial crab meat you can get. At Wegmans I found a kind that has tiny shrimp mixed in too. I took some of that, chopped it up fine, and added it to shrimp ramen. I finished it off with Old Bay (of course) and the result was very nice indeed. I have to do that again.
I made it out to happy hour tonight. The place was packed, not just with TNG folks but mostly with kickball teams. It was full and LOUD. Also I had no idea kickball existed outside of elementary school. I always liked it, I may have to find out more. I hung out for a while, said hi to a bunch of people, and finally met
blushing_grace. I didn't go to the meeting but stuck around til 9 or so, until the kickballers got too overwhelming. When I finally left my ears were ringing from the noise.
On the train home I was acosted by a young woman (I think that's a fair term to use for someone half my age) who liked my boots. (No, she didn't use the line you're all thinking of!) She's kinda goth and works for Sephora... there's a definite synergy there. ;) It's usually my Hello Kitty bag that gets comments, but I rarely complain about success. She helpfully pointed out that Voltaire will be at Nation on Thursday. Hmm.
At home we watched The Daily Show and more Dr. Who.
geekchick scored season 1 of the new series on DVD, from Amazon UK iirc. It isn't out in region 1 until July 4, but this is why we have a region-free DVD player. The new series is quite good imho, the new Doctor especially, it's a pity he only stuck around for one season.
I think the Momokawa Pearl sake may be my favorite so far, though it *definitely* took some getting used to. It's kind of ironic because the only other nigori sake I have (the rest are filtered) is my least favorite so far.
