SYTYCD Season 9: Top 20
So after a two week break we finally get to see the top 20 dance for real and see who everyone is partnered with. It was a really good show - there really weren't any bad dances but there were definitely ones I thought were better. I really have no idea how America will vote though.
The show started out with a top 20 routine - that was awesome. Everyone was dressed in suits and there were desks and chairs. It was a Chris Scott routine and I could see his style there a lot. I've seen the routine a few times now and find new things to really like in it. I'm not sure how they were able to learn that cool routine in addition to their actual partner dances.
Witney/Chehon (Samba): The first time I watched this one I watched him the entire time because I wasn't sure how he'd do. He did better than I expected. I watched it again and just watched her. She seemed to be carrying the routine most of the time. Loved that she seemed really into it. I think she'll be good in other styles too.
Tiffany/George (Contemp): Really liked this one. She is soo short but she is able to do a lot with her tiny little body. George is just really good. They are a cute couple - I hope they do well. Love Sonya's contemp pieces too.
Janaya/Brandon (Hip Hop): Wow - Tabitha is pregnant...On first watch I wasn't overly impressed - to me it felt like they were just dancing the steps - or that she was. On second viewing it was a little better than I had thought. I think they may be in danger because they just aren't as popular - her more-so than him.
Alexa/Daniel (Jazz): Eh...I watched this twice and still wasn't overly impressed. I think based on the applause for Daniel that he may be okay but with Alexa crammed down our faces during Vegas week, I can see her being another Ryan. Though if she is in the bottom, I think the judges would keep her over someone else..
Amber/Nick (Waltz): Never heard Jason yell at someone like that. It made me watch Nick a little more during the dance but I don't know enough to know whether he was doing it correctly. Another couple that is probably in danger - because they aren't as well known AND the Waltz isn't that exciting..
Amelia/Will (Hip-Hop): They should get through because of Will alone. He is so fun. I was smiling through the entire routine - she surprised me actually. Way better than I expected.
Janelle/Darien (African Jazz): The dance itself was just alright - but I think they danced it well. Darien is impressive with what he can do. Janelle did really well - I hope she doesn't get hurt any more!
Eliana/Cyrus (Broadway): I was nervous about this one as well (same as Tyce). Not a lot of dancing that I saw - it kind of seemed more like character acting but both of them did really well. It was a good piece for Cyrus since he was able to showcase his personality. And Eliana really got into character as well. Tyce's reaction was a little over the top.
Audrey/Matthew (Contemp): I had heard Travis was doing a routine and it was really great. Though it looked like she almost tripped a little during the couch jump. It was a really great piece - definitely one of my favorites of the night.
Lindsay/Cole (Paso): I kind of cringed when I heard they were doing Paso - already? But wow - Cole really did well. She was awesome also but super impressed with him.
It's hard to tell though...esp since it's individual instead of couples.

Next week two of each go home - so my guess is Janaya and Amber and Nick and Brandon..

In other news, we saw the trailer for the new Step Up movie and saw Kathryn and Twitch. There may have been other dancers but they were featured - as she is the leading actress. I just hope they don't make her speak and cry at the same time...we all know how that goes..
