SYTYCD Season 9 - Meet the Top 20
It's been a while again but SYTYCD is back so I have to start postings stuff again. Since I last posted, House ended (sad), Game of Thrones (the second season) was on, True Blood is back on, and I ran another marathon (in March). Also went to Myrtle Beach, ran 2 5ks with the family (the Color Run and the Pi Mile at Tech with just Lex).
And now on to SYTYCD.. Last night was the first performance show - well kind of. It was the Meet the Top 20. I like the format of doing the reveals along with the dances. It was the 200th episode as well. It doesn't seem that long ago that I remember watching the 100th episode!
I'll go through them in order but really - who was surprised that Alexa and Cyrus made it in. Probably the most screen time I've ever seen on two contestants. Jeez. I feel like Alexa is going to be another Ryan and I'm worried that Cyrus won't be able to do the other styles as well.
Zooey Deschanel was a guest judge. Pretty much how I expected it to go with her. I guess it helps that it wasn't a "true" judging show.

I liked it - had lots of elements that looked cool. I remember watching for Alexa's expressions to see how she was doing and I saw George smiling a lot. He did some really cool stuff too. Wasn't a fan of the weird version of the song.

I knew they were going to bring out the friends together. I didn't actually expect them to pick them both. Nick - I don't remember much of. I really liked the dance though. The girls are just awesome at what they do. I think if you are good at ballroom - it's really hard to go wrong. Lana said they looked like goldfish and a shark.

Daniel (Australian guy)
Eliana
Chehon (jumping guy - I mostly remember him from his final solo)
I liked this piece a lot more than some of the other ballet styles we've seen on the show - (my other favorite probably being Katee and Will from Season 4). Honestly I was kind of watching Eliana the most. I don't know how she danced in that outfit. They were all very shiny. Oh - they did the same thing with the two guys - chose Daniel first and then said Chehon was also in...grrr..

Tiffany
Janelle (had to sit it out because she was ill - but she's the belly dancer)
I'm kind of curious how this one would have gone with 3 instead of 2. Not a fan of the song but the dance was so awesome to watch. The two girls do kind of look like twins - I have a feeling I'm going to have trouble telling them apart. I know one is the squeaky noises with her shoulder girl. It was funny though seeing them stand next to Cat - they are so short! Well Cat is tall but she looked a good foot taller than both of them. Loved their makeup in this one too. Both of them remind me of Ashley from Season 7.

It was okay. It was flowy. I was kind of distracted watching it so it could have been good. I don't remember much about Janaya - they said she kind of flew under the radar during Vegas week. We'll see how she does.

Cyrus (duh)
This was kind of cool - I was watching Cyrus a lot to see how he was doing. I loved the dance number itself. Lots of cool stuff. Seemed gimmicky but it was fun.
Top 109 Girls by Travis:
I can always tell a Travis piece. He has movements that are very Travis. It was okay - seemed to feature Alexa...
Top 10 Guys by Sonya:
Very good. The pants were interesting and I felt bad for Will because he was uncomfortable going shirtless. It all looked really cool. I liked the partner work even though they had talked about how they were uncomfortable with it.
Top 2019 by Mia:
Loved it. Seemed short though. But I liked the different partner work while they were in the line. It looked awkward for Brandon (I think) at the end w/o a partner - but maybe she choreographed it that way to have two guys on the ends.
I don't really have a favorite yet. I have a feeling the ballroom girls will do well. George may be too technically good as is Chehon.
Should be an interesting season - can't wait to see who is paired up. It's cool that three of the dancers are from Atlanta this year!
