once in a lullaby

i've been thinking about religion again. if you're particularly sensitive to that subject, maybe you oughten't read on.

let me begin by saying that a religion is a way of life. if you are going to choose to practice one, make sure it is one you believe in fully, because if you are going to stick such a strong label to yourself you ought to be prepared to handle what it carries.

i hate it when people practice religions because they are trendy. like kaballah. bull shit, madonna and brittany that you believe in that. you are only in it for the little red bracelet, you're practicing because you're bored and volitile and you think that it will make your life worthwhile if you have some religion to practice. and you can't choose a common one, because then people would know when you were screwing it up. you have to have something obscure and unique or else you might not stand out anymore. never choose a religion because it is trendy. that saps your choice of all validity.

i also hate when people choose religion for shock value. satan worshippers? bull. shit. most satan worshippers are just angsty kids who wear all black and are trying to get back at their parents. the way i see it, it's less of a religion and more of a reaction. and that's sad. i mean, the original satanists actually believed in the self born through original sin, and i suppose that is real and valid, but the people worshipping the devil? i seriously doubt that even they believe their religion has any credence of its own. they just want to piss off christians.

christianity in and of itself i don't really have any problems with. it gets warped a lot, and i suppose that is its fatal flaw; it is too maleable and easily manipulated. i get angry with the catholoc often because they picked and choose what to use in their bible, which i suppose all christian sects do and i'm sorry i'm picking on catholocism for. that act is so dumb... if you are going to believe in something as big as religion is, then you shouldn't be sorting out the things that you think others shouldn't pay attention to and then imposing your watered down and censored version on others.

on one hand, i don't know that it's right to believe all of anything, but taking out the parts of the original bible where jesus is planting dragons' scales or something... maybe that was in there for a reason, and now the lesson it was supposed to teach us is lost and gone forever.

back to the catholoc church. in ireland in the 1960s and before, many young women were sent to nunnerys and treated as slaves. years of their lives were stolen, they were tortured and degraded, and not allowed out. some young women escaped the convents and eventually the church realized the error of its ways and admitted it was wrong, but it did not really appolgize to the women, and it did nothing to help them back on their feet. these women became estranged from their famlies because of the church, they lacked real world skills and were scared emotionally for the rest of their lives. i can not condone a church that does this.

i am not saying that all catholocs are bad. please do not get angry at me for this. it was individuals, but they were following the teachings of a religion warped to cause pain to others. and that is horrible. it makes me sick, and those acts as well as the recent bit with the young boys etc has tarnished my opinion of that religion and i can never give it a clean slate. and that's sad.

any religion when taken to the extreme i think is bad. fundimentalism. it makes my stomach turn. i don't know.

i've lost my train of though.
