more good news, and contact info

michelle's apparently talking up a storm now. she definitely has visual recognition of her family, although she doesn't always remember all their names. but apparently she worked out the TV remote on her own (he was pretty proud of that; i said "hey, she's always been a quick learner") and somebody on whatever show (my guess is "bernie mac", but who knows) was calling for bernie, which is her stepdad's name. she looked at him and said, "they won't find you, 'cause you're here." ha!

they're pretty sure long-term memory's intact; if she has problems, it'll be with short-term memory.

sounds like she's getting better every day, and i'm hoping that once all the tubes and drugs are out of her system she'll be even more coherent and functional. i hope.

anyway: he said definitely pics are a good idea, that if you just send a card or letter she may not make the association. if you do send pics, be sure to label them on the back. (or you could do the "memento" thing, if you have a polaroid.) if you don't have hard copies but have pics online, you can email them to him.

he says she'd love to get stuff, so knock y'selves out. just, y'know, make sure it's nothing too shocking, since her entire family will be seeing it, probably before she ever does. >;)

ETA: forgot to mention the extra-good news -- she's already asking to go home. they're going to try and get her sitting up on the edge of the bed for a while today, and start building up her strength. i think it can only get better from there.

encephalitis, improvement, michelle
