Went to a talk/Q&A/book signing with writer Alice Hoffman at the Bran and Bluma Appel Salon at Toronto Reference Library with a couple of friends tonight. It's for her new book a prequel to Practical Magic called the Rules of Magic....it's the aunt's story.

Very cool although I didn't ask any questions as I normally would.

Library = free = WOO

So WOTS came and went today...it so hot out 30 degrees, 40 with humidity that there was no way I was going to walk outdoors checking out books in this weather. There's always next year!

Finally lady__croft and I have finished culling books from our personal library. Getting rid of about 20 file boxes of books. I'd love to pull more from my shelves for the sake of space but I really want to keep the ones that are left. So for now they will stay although I dread the number of boxes there will be when we one day move. The subject matter ranges ( Read more... )

So Banned Book Week starts today and runs Sept 30 - Oct 6, 2012. More info here....and for challenged books by year check here.

Never could understand why books are ever banned in the first place. I can see restricting a book until more age appropriate especially if there is explicit sex or violence etc in a school setting but banning makes no sense ( Read more... )

Today on BT they announced that the World's Biggest Bookstore was closing in 18 months.....I want to cry...I love that store...it's my favourite of the downtown bookstores....much better organized than any Indigo-Chapters in the malls.....

Got back not too long ago from seeing the John Carter movie. I will post a review but I need to collect my thoughts first and my emotions too. I can say I was both thrilled by the movie in general and disappointed in some of the deviations from the book but I do want to see it again.

On Feb 28, 2012 on my way to a medical appointment I get off at Queen subway station and stop dead in my tracks. Right in front of me on the wall of the station is this HUGE ad for John Carter (of Mars) - it was the one with the 2 white apes.
