Mmmm, I love the smell of wood smoke.

So the good news is, we're using the fireplace for the first time in a couple years. The bad news is, it's because the furnace died. One night over the weekend, I couldn't sleep, so I came downstairs, and there was this really icky burning plastic smell. It seemed to be everywhere, I couldn't pinpoint it to one location. Woke up yesterday morning (ok, ok, afternoon!) and one of the first things out of Mike's mouth is "So the furnace repairman should be here soon". Uh....wha? Huh? Furnace won't kick on at all. Apparently, the burning plastic smell was some very important wire-y thingamabob inside the furnace, well...burning. Luckily, all the circumstances conspired so that this was not as bad as it could have been-- ie, nice weather yesterday, they could bring/install the new furnace today, we still have firewood left from when we moved in, just refinanced some stuff, so money's not as tight as it could have been-- but it still sucks. Being unexpectedly forced to replace anything that expensive is never a good thing. And the wood is ollllllld and really dry, it burns really fast, so Mike ended up staying up all night to keep the fire going. Because Aidan's medication mucks with his ability to regulate his body temperature, so the last thing we need is for it to get really cold in here. Hypothermia anyone? But once again, postive thoughts! The kids are safely off to school, where, theoretically, the furnaces work, and by the time they get home, this one should be fixed.
