spiralleds reminds me that you guys actually enjoy hearing about my exercise stuff, so voila: I exercised this morning! This is especially important today -
rm_renfield awarded me bonus points for working out while siiiiiiick (the i's, btw, are from the Full House episode where Jesse teaches DJ how to fake being sick in order to skip school, and she's taking notes).
Rolled out of bed at 8:00 (which, in grad student-speak, is fairly early) and got myself to the gym. I introduced myself to some more people and continued to feel anti-social every time I put on my headphones (I am literally the only person I've seen so far who has portable music, much less an iPod - SO not the University gyms). I mentioned how friendly everyone was, and they got into a conversation about how things used to be pretty quiet, but nowadays the morning crew is "just a bunch of Chatty Cathies", and I'm quoting directly here.
I rocked my knee-ups today. That's the one where you support yourself by your elbows while your legs dangle in space, then you bring your knees up to your chest and lower them. I've been doing two sets of 10, but today I did two sets of 15! These are much harder than they sound, by the way, and they are the last exercise I do, so I'm already tired by then. I'm actually getting a little bored with the speed bag, and will need to find some new stuff to do on it other than "keep trying to hit it with one hand until the bag skitters away or my arm falls off, then switch hands".
Apparently the owner has found a new building for us, and it's not too far away from the current one (which is being torn down in December). That's a relief - I didn't want to be driving out to Sun Prairie three times a week. I'm already getting attached to this one, though, so I know I'm going to be all pouty and "change is bad" when the time comes.
I was reading some articles tacked to the bulletin board in between sets today. One of them talked about motivation for exercising, and mentioned that you might not enjoy the workout itself, but you'll enjoy the benefits. Well, gosh, if you don't enjoy the workout, find another workout! I can't imagine doing something I dislike three to four times a week. This is why I don't use things like Stairmasters, by the way. I get a kick out lifting the weights themselves, or punching people/heavy bags, or even playing Frisbee or swing-dancing when I have the chance. I strongly believe that there are ways to exercise out there that you will enjoy if you keep looking. Don't be content (or discontent, as the case may be) with forcing yourself to do something you hate in order to be fit.
Well. I meant to get farther into How To Do Things With Words during this shift. I've spent two of my three hours doing Internet stuff. Huh. Well, at least fifteen minutes of that was official TA stuff, so it doesn't count as goofing off. And I have to continue inspiring the LJ masses with reports on my work-outs, so this shouldn't count either.
Ooogh. Note to self: When you have to pee, but don't feel like gathering up all the laptops and finding the key to the cabinet to lock them away safely so you can go to the bathroom, STOP drinking water, for Pete's sake.
