Title: Wistful Hearts 10/?
Groups: SHINee, U-Kiss, 2PM, SNSD, BEAST, Super Junior (random characters show up often in this fic ;D)
Pairings: (main) Jonghyun/Taemin, Onew/Key, Nichkhun/Minho (other) onesided!Minho/Key, onesided!Jessica/Jonghyun, implied!Dongho/Soohyun
Rating: PG-15 (this chapter)
Summary: Jonghyun's the school bad boy who cuts class, gets into fights, and doesn't think he's capable of loving. But deep down he's different. Onew's his best friend from childhood and the school president, who's just trying to get the most popular boy in school to notice him. Key's known by everyone, and though he's practically worshiped and acts so self-confident, he's got dark things hidden inside. Minho, the soccer team's ace player is looking for something interesting to happen in his life and wants someone he can love to come along, even when there's someone right beside him. And Taemin's a freshman whose dedication is torn between what he wants and what his parents want, his dreams feeling out of reach because he's just “too young to know any better”. When these five are brought together, the occurrences afterward are filled with heartbreak and sorrow, but also with happiness, fun, and love.
A/N: gosh this took me so long to write and post up DX hopefully you'll all forgive me for the delay XD major cliffhanger last chapter XDDDD hehe~ hope you all enjoy! comments are <3

'Where is everyone...?'

Jonghyun stood in the middle of the lounge, scratching his head. He was bored, and without being able to figure out something to do on his own, he'd gone out to seek a few of the entertaining people he knew. Jinki was back in their room, but he hadn't seemed to be in the mood to do anything fun; he'd had a very thoughtful expression on his face last time he'd glanced over at him. So he went to look for Key, but there was no sign of him anywhere. Finally - though in fact the first person he'd thought to go in search of had been him - he decided to find Taemin. But again, he didn't see any sight of the boy.

'What the hell...'

He'd looked everywhere he thought he'd be; the lounge, his room, the cafeteria, the dance studio. Where else could he be?

Maybe he should ask around. But that seemed so desperate, and Jonghyun was not desperate to see Taemin, or anyone for that matter. The white-haired kid hadn't had any idea, and neither and his little dance buddies. Who, other than them, knew him well?

Minho. Of course.

What had Jinki said about him? He was a jock, right. So he would be outside doing something or whatever. He sighed and made his way out, noticing right away that the soccer team was there practicing. Jonghyun jogged into the middle of the practice, peering around for the sophomore. Taking a step backwards he ran into someone.

“Oh hey, what are you doing here?”

He turned and had to tilt his head up quite a bit to look him in the eye. It seriously irked him, but he tried to maintain a mildly friendly expression. “Hey, you seen the kid?”

“The ki... Ah, you mean Taemin?” Minho reached back and tightened the elastic that held most of his brown locks into a ponytail. “Uh... I don't think so.”

Two guys came up to them, both taller than Jonghyun, to which he ignored. “Are you looking for your cousin?”

“Yeah, have you seen him, Dongwoon?”

The taller of the two nodded. “Some girl wanted to talk to him earlier, so we brought him to her while he was having dance practice. I can't remember her name, but she's got really blonde hair and she hangs out with that really girly guy, Key?”

'Blonde girl..? Jessica? Why would she want to talk to him?'

“Do you know where they went after?” He asked, but received a shake of the head. “Thanks anyway.” And he waved and left.

So now he'd have to find Jessica. Maybe she'd know where he was. He'd really rather not have to talk to her - the girl had been really strange lately - but he really needed to find Taemin. Not just because he was bored, not anymore, but because he hoped seeing the kid would end the weird feeling in his gut that had appeared.

He was jogging through the hallways, asking around to see if people had seen Jessica or Taemin. At one point he'd even asked a teacher - Kim Heechul seonsaengnim, who, for a teacher, was actually kind of cool and Key's favourite one - and was rewarded with a location; the pool.

'Well, I'm close by anyway, so that's good.' He slowed his pace, though something at the back of his mind was bugging him, urging him to go faster. He couldn't figure out why, however, he still listened anyway.

Jonghyun pushed open the door, and then halted sharply as his eyes took in the scene before him.

Jessica was on her hands and knees, staring frozen like a statue at the deep end of the pool where there was someone flailing around. Shit, was someone drowning? He called out the girl's name, and when she turned her face was streaked with tears. “H-He... I don't... I can't help... He saved me...”

“Who? Who's in there..?” His mouth spoke the words, though in his heart the dread he'd been feeling already told him who it was. The thing hidden in the depths of his thoughts revealed itself to be a memory.

“Hey, wanna go for a swim?”

“Huh?” He blinked, clearly not expecting that sentence coming out of that mouth. “Are you serious? It's what, eight o'clock? … “Well, in any case, I-I can't swim...”

“Oh come on, I'm not stupid. That's an excuse so obvious I can fucking smell it.”

“No really,” Taemin fidgeted with the strap of his bag, bowing his head down slightly. “I'm a-actually kind of afraid of water...”

But he didn't want to believe it, couldn't, until she said his name.

“Taemin.”

Without leaving a second to deliberate he ran forward and jumped into the water, not caring that he was fully dressed. He swam towards the boy, panicked when he saw that he was no longer moving and trying to get to the surface. Jonghyun's strong arms wrapped around his limp body, dragging him to the surface. He mentally thanked his parents - whoa, it'd been a while since he'd done that - for making him take swimming and CPR classes when he was a kid, as he swam backwards with Taemin's head on his should so his face was out of the water.

His breaths came out in huffs as he lifted himself first and then the other up onto the side of the pool. Once out he lay him down, starting to shake with fear and from the cold. Why wasn't he waking up?

“Hey, hey, kid, come on. You're okay now, you - you need to...”

Jonghyun's hands wandered without him consciously doing so, one holding the freshman's had while the other caressed his cheek. He had to wake up, he couldn't be... No, no way.

“Come on, kid. Breathe.” He inhaled heavily, closing his eyes as he plugged Taemin's nose and pressed their lips together. He blew in oxygen twice after tilting his head back, and then set to work doing compressions. For quite a while he'd been imagining what it would be like to kiss him again, this time sober, however this was not how he'd imagined it would happen. There was a tightness in his chest that wasn't completely from his exhaustion and efforts of saving him. He only realized why his vision was blurring after the cold liquid on his face turned hot as it slipped down his cheeks.

He was crying.

The body lying before him wasn't stirring, and a sob escaped from Jonghyun's lips. It had been forever since he'd cried, and not it felt like a part of himself was dying. No. No. That word, he couldn't even think it. There was no way that the bright, cheerful, passionate boy he'd come to know and actually care about was dead.

“God dammit, fucking wake up!!” His voice had risen and then cracked from the desperation and earnestness in his words. He leaned over him, pulling him onto his lap. “Please, please... Taemin... Please...”

One last attempt; he breathed into the other's mouth, keeping their lips connected for longer than necessary.

And then his head snapped back when the body in his arms convulsed and Taemin began choking up water, his lungs finally sucking in the oxygen he needed to live. His brown orbs fluttered open for a moment, and he croaked out “Wha...” but couldn't finish his sentence. His eyes closed as he once again fell unconscious, but this time he was breathing.

“You're okay, you're going to be alright,” Jonghyun whispered gently, soothingly, and gathered him into his arms before he got to his feet to carry him to the medical room in the school.

“You're going to be okay. I've got you, I won't let anything happen to you.”

- -

It had felt like he'd been sitting on the cold ground for an eternity. And at the same time it felt like only a few seconds. Key had remembered closing his eyes, vowing only to rest for a moment, but when he opened them the next, someone was suddenly in the booth with him, shaking him gently by the shoulder. Key winced, and immediately the shaking subsided, replaced by frantic words.

“Hey, a-are you okay? Can you hear me? I-I didn't mean to - are you... Kibum, what happened?”

He didn't reply, or rather, couldn't, not when his mind felt so blurred from a headache and his tongue felt heavy from his emotion clogged throat. Hot liquid slipped down his cheeks again, and Jinki hushes him, dabbing away the tears with his sleeve. “It's okay, you're okay. I'll bring you to the hospital and--”

“No--” Key's refusal was cut off with a groan of pain as his head swam and he'd accidentally bumped his shoulder against the glass wall he was resting against. “No hospitals...”

“But then... where do I... I...” He bit his lip in thought, and then his mouth set in a determined line. “You don't want anyone to see you like this, do you..? That's why... Okay, this might hurt. I'm going to lift you up.”

He did so very slowly, and in the end Key was balanced on his feet, unsteadily, but at least he could move. He leaned his face against Jinki's chest, breathing in and out regularly.

“I'm going to take you to my house, alright? No one's home s-so you have nothing to worry about... Can you walk?”

The answer he was given came in the form of the younger boy fainting.

Jinki carried him all the way to his small house. It wasn't that great of a distance - the place he'd lived in with his parents before his dormitory life was only a few blocks away from the school - but the more time Key was left untreated the more he worried about his safety.

The first thing he did once they were inside was set him gently on the couch. Key's eyes had opened then, and he'd fidgeted, trying to form the question that he needed to ask. “Can I... uhm... you need to get your... clothes off...”

Kibum's lips upturned slightly, humor in his pain filled eyes, and he felt his face redden. “You'll have to do it.”

He nodded, and nervously began unbuttoning his shirt since he'd taken off his jacket earlier. Slipping it off his slender body, he forced his eyes from roaming around the pale skin. But his gaze did focus on his neck and shoulder, at the bruises - faded - that were there, and the more recent cuts that were still bleeding. “I'll be right back.”

Jinki came back with his first aid kit, pulling out the peroxide, the cloth bandages, and the tweezers. “O-O-Okay. I think you have some glass still in those cuts, so I'm going to have to take them out,” Slowly, very slowly, he began doing as he said, wincing just as much as the other was because of the pain he was putting him through. But he had to do it, to make sure it wouldn't get worse; that the cuts wouldn't get infected. When he was done and had wrapped that bandages, his voice shook slightly. “W-What about your head, or anywhere else?”

“Hn...” His small hand reached up to touch his head, run through his hair and pressed down on a certain spot. “Ow!” He exclaimed, and when he drew back his hand his fingertips were coated with blood.

“Ah, hold still,” He leaned close, sitting side by side facing Key, and reached over. Using one hand to hold his face still, the other wiped at the cut on his head with a wet cloth. Luckily it had finished bleeding already and there didn't seem to be any glass. He dropped the one hand, however the other stayed, caressing his cheek. “What happened? Who did all of this to you?”

The tender words seemed to spike something in the boy, because at the next moment, tears were dripping from his dark eyes. Jinki had never seem him look like this, He was delicate, fragile, not at all like the strong person he pretended to be. The senior knew the truth about him though, which made him want to protect him and shield him from whatever hardships he'd had to endure.

“Does it still hurt anywhere?”

“N-No... not physically...”

Right then, he would forget about the reasons why he was hurt. Only because he could tell the other wanted nothing more than to get his mind off of it, and he would grant that wish by following the feelings he had in his heart for him. Jinki had spent more time that he could've ever imagined contemplating whether he should confess that right then he couldn't help himself. So he pulled him closer, and kissed him.

Immediately the affect took place, the spark between them flaring with passion. The heat that coursed through them escaped through the barriers of skin, warming and exciting them on contact, every time they touched. Key's arms, still bare, snaked around his neck and he deepened the kiss, aching to fill up the emptiness in his heart. And the very thing Jinki wanted to do was just that, fill up the space with himself, because he loved the boy dearly.

Getting up from the couch they slowly made their way to the bedroom, one guiding the other since it was his house, all the while holding and touching each other carefully, like this was so absolutely new to them. Clothes shed and left along their path to the mattress, and when they finally made it they were carried away by the heat of the moment.

Neither minded, because they both knew that though they said their love confessions when their bodies became one, they weren't just carelessly spoken words. They were true, and that was what completely brought them, their hearts, together.

They realized, in that precious time, what was in the heart of the one who had captured their own.

Pure, nonjudgmental, love.
