an overdue update

time for an overdue update! first up is hair stuff.

on the 5th i posted about having braided my hair and how i was going to leave it braided for a week with the hope that once i unbraided it i'd have curly/wavy for at least a week. well, i unbraided it exactly a week later and this was the result.

the waves gradually dropped/loosened as time went by, but it's now been almost 2 weeks since i unbraided my hair and i still have some waves in my hair. :) i think this is definitely something i'll be doing to my hair again.

on the other hand, even though i'm definitely not ready to do away with my dreads yet, i keep thinking about how i'd look if i chopped them off... as in, how would i look if i chopped off pretty much ALL of my hair and had really, REALLY short hair. like this! D:

...i'd have to have some serious self-confidence and courage to chop my hair off that short because i know how much flack i'll get from EVERYone (blacks, non-blacks, family, strangers, work, etc) for having such short, natural, "BOYISH" hair. D; but damnit, i'm starting to crave a change and that change is short, EASILY MAINTAINED(!!!), androgynous hair. we'll just have to wait and see what the future holds for my current dreads, i guess... :x even if i do chop off my hair really short, i will grow it back into dreads again eventually. i really <3 dreads.

moving on, i finally made it back to the doctor's for the follow-up appointment re: my blood test and birth control. my blood test came back normal except for one thing. apparently i'm mildly anemic due to an iron deficiency. i swear this isn't the first time i've been told this, but my memory is literally full of holes so iono. one thing that really annoys me about doctors in general (and i swear every doctor i've been to has been like this) is that whenever i describe problems/symptoms i'm having or i get told that i have a deficiency of some kind like this iron deficiency, the first thing they do is ask me about my diet and as soon as i say/confirm that i don't eat much meat they're like "AH HA! I KNEW IT!!" and then they proceed to stop diagnosing for any other possible causes/reasons for the problem and point all the blame on what i (don't) eat. it's like sure, i realize that the fact that i hardly eat red meat might have something to do with it, but it could also be something else and they don't even care to see if it's anything else. i wonder how often actual vegetarians/vegans have to deal with doctors being like this. :/

meh.

she adviced iron & vitamin c supplements, but i think i will try to eat more iron-rich food (not necessarily meat!) before i resort to supplements. synthetic crap is crap, imho.

edit: oh, and i forgot to mention that she made a point to disassociate my anemia with the multiple myeloma that my mom has since anemia is a symptom. that was nice of her, i guess, since it had crossed my mind.

in addition to being mildly anemic (which i swear isn't anything new for me), we talked about my lack of a sex drive and decided that i'll trial a new pill for 4 months to see if that affects anything. i'm seriously hoping that this new pill won't screw with me too much hormones/emotions/etc wise, but i am worried because i've been on YAZ for like 7 years... who knows what a change will bring. D has said he'll take note of any changes and won't take it to heart if i end up biting his head off during this trial lol.

ah, there was one more notable thing about the appointment. i mentioned in a previous entry how this doctor is really nice and how it's like she's just somebody's grandma who likes to talk a lot about everything and just so happened to practice medicine lol. well, talking to her really is disarming and she does seem more genuinely nice and caring towards her patients than any other doctor i've seen, so i decided to see what she thought about a subject that i normally would never even think to bring up with a doctor: asexuality. to her credit, she seemed to actually be interested in the topic and believed that some people are asexual and that sex drives/sexual attraction exists on a scale/spectrum, but she also said some stuff that made me have to bite my tongue. :x it was very interesting hearing her thoughts on the matter, though, and i have a hard time believing that any other GP (General Practitioner) would be any better on the topic, so definitely +1 for her.

changing topics yet again, i've been hunting for work.... for the most part it's sucked ass as there aren't any good jobs that i qualify for, but i did find 2 really awesome jobs that i've applied for. i think i mentioned in a previous entry how i would be teaching a course in Esperanto at a university...? well, it turns out that that class fell through because no one signed up for it.... >_<;;; BUT, the 2 jobs that i found are administrative jobs for the same school where my Esperanto classes would have been held. it's actually an institute (the Institute of Modern Languages) within a university which offers 30 languages to both uni students and to the public. it would be SO AWESOME if i could land a job at IML... i really have my fingers crossed for these jobs. >_<;;

i debated over whether it would be a bad idea to apply for 2 positions simultaneously through the same employer/company, but was finally convinced that it would be fine... i hope this doesn't backfire on me. :/ the two jobs are kind of mirrors of each other, both doing much of the same thing except one is casual and the other is part-time with more responsibilities. the applications closed for the casual job a few days ago, so hopefully i'll hear back soon about an interview... ;-; apps for the part-time job won't close until the first week of Feb, so i have a while yet to wait for that.... please, please, PLEASE let me land the part-time job, and if not the part-time job then the casual job. ;-; it would so turn things around for me to get one of these jobs... sigh.

anyway, this entry has gotten too long already. D: will try to update more frequently in the future so that every update won't end up this long!
