purple and blue

It's the little things.

When we bought our house, the bedroom was painted peach, with beige trim and a grey carpet. Lovely, except that we are bold, primary-colors types. I ripped that carpet up and painted the walls very white. Sometime in the first year of living there, I decided that a lavender trim would go nicely with our chuppah, and painted about half of it as a sample.

Seven years later, we're finally having the rest of the trim painted by the friend who did the nursery. We were so relieved when the grey primer covered up the beige. It's mostly done now, and I love it. The effect is somewhat candy-like, especially next to the red Ikea bookcase, and the contrast with the white-white is possibly too stark. (Sadly, our bamboo shades now look green in a sickly kind of way. They'll have to be replaced.)

But here's the fun thing. I can lie on our bed, with its bright blue duvet cover, and look through the lavender door frame into the nursery, with its bright blue walls and bright white trim and lavender curtains. All singing in harmony!

I wonder what we will do with the nursery when we kick the kid upstairs? It's such a perfect nursery. The master bedroom, nursery and bathroom on the second floor can all be shut off from the rest of the house while open to each other, making its own little world. The room used to be just a place we parked various dressers and we mostly let it be trashed. But now it is a glorious blue, and I suspect that when we and the kid no longer want us walking through his bedroom to get to the bathroom, we're going to want to sit in that room and enjoy the color. But I don't want it to be an office, full of papers and clutter and dust, and we've got two perfectly good sitting rooms. Well, we'll have to see.

Yes, I know what time it is. I collapsed when my wife was nursing the kid to sleep, and then woke up hungry. I know that six hours of sleep isn't actually enough. I'll go back to sleep soon!
