my theory on why there are no funny women is that they have more language centers in their brains-- take any great comedian, from the late george carlin to richard pryor to mitch hedberg: the content of their humor is invariably painful, it touches on deep hypocricies, pains, injustices. they poke those pain centers just enough to make an audience uncomfortable, to provoke a response. and because the audience is at a comedy show, the response is usually laughter.
women, because they are more aware of the power of words, and are capable of holding multiple layers of meaning in their more advanced brain at the same time, aren't equipped to poke at these painful subtexts to provoke laughter. really, if you think about what makes chappelle or pryor or hedberg funny, it is some hard fucked unfunny shit. but these guys have a brain that allows them to remove themselves from the subtext of their jokes when they tell them, where women can't do that.
thats what i came up with, to explain why elaine sucks so bad on seinfeld. i was smoking a lot of weed at the time.
Interesting. I always had the impression that women can't be funny rattling around in my head for a while, but this article kind of cemented it for me:
