Woohoo! Tonight I finally convinced Java to display the occupancy grid map formation that I coded earlier. Before, I didn't even know if my code worked. Now I can watch as (a trace of) the robot's lasers carve out from a blank slate an overhead view of the lab next door. Coolness.
The relatively long hours I've dedicated to work have actually begun to pay off. I feel very close to finding the last bugs in my implementation of that hierarchical reinforcement learning algorithm. Now I'm itching to build some sort of GUI for it, now that I realize the joys of visualization.
