The good thing is I sat my last exam on Wednesday and passed it.

The other good thing is 'my' History of Cinema Professor didn't flat out laugh in my face when I went up to him and asked him to be my 'tutor' for the final thesis I have to write to get my damn 3-year degree.

Especially considering I told him I would like to write it about " ( Read more... )

DIADP is one of my favorites for what it proposes. The looks between them say more than all the words they exchanege. So the thing is, Hutch has been feeling out Starsky for a long time. There's a gradual shift over the seasons, particularly season three, where Hutch is dropping hints or changing his focus towards Starsky. I've long said that Death in a Different Place is one of my favorite eps and it remains true because of how much depth you get from these characters. The scene in the car, where Hutch pointedly asks Starsky if it would have made a difference had he known John Blaine was gay. THAT SCENE is so overly telling of where these two men are in their lives. Hutch has been living in the closet, with the hidden truth, for all these years and he's just trying to get Starsky to notice, but he's afraid of the outcome and Starsky is not ready. Starsky knows, but he's not ready to know, you know?;) That look of "would it have made a difference, will it make a difference with us?" Starsky knows what Hutch is telling him, but he's ( ... )

YAY, I love looong comments!!

The looks between them say more than all the words they exchanege.

I couldn't agree more. Being a Nick/Kevin slasher, I'm quite used to relying on looks most of the time, so, yes, that's definitely something I've noticed about Starsky and Hutch, too.

There's a gradual shift over the seasons, particularly season three, where Hutch is dropping hints

I think I've caught some of those hints when I first saw the season 3 episodes I've had the chance to watch so far, but now that you mention it, it's even clearer, I guess. I probably started to notice something like that in the "I Love You, Rosey Malone" episode and, in general, any episode in which Starsky has a girlfriend. Hutch simply struck me as painfully jealous and trying to act cool but pretty much failing, at least in the eyes of a slasher. ;)

And it will tear them apart and it will break our hearts to witness it, but it's time.

I love angst (how else would I have survived 5 seasons of "Queer As Folk"?! LOL), but I know my ♥ will definitely be ( ... )

Yes. I assumed, from what David said in one of the clips you sent me, that it was something both he and Paul had thought of and discussed at some point, but I'm curious as to whether it was ever mentioned again after 2004. And, of course, I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on this as well. =)David has wanted to do this project since about 1998. He has tried to pimp his idea every chance he got for the past 8 years. Paul never wanted to do it until very, very recently. I, however, hate David's idea because he's writing Starsky and David, not Starsky and Hutch. Basically, Sam and Harry (codename for SH since they can't use the SH name) broke up around...83? Over a woman or a case involving a woman...but it's not said WHAT about the woman. Harry (David) pretty much bums around Europe, has multiple marriages, ends up at an environmetal rally where he runs into who? Sam (Paul) who is now a security guard for the rally. OMG, reunion ( ... )

Thanks for the info and for sharing your letter and David's answer! Wow, how nice of him to reply to you! It was a most interesting read and I can see why you wouldn't be thrilled by such a plot.

I agree with you for the most part, especially on the fact that Hutch is DEFINITELY NOT David and having him go through that kind of struggles would probably send out-of-character vibes even to such a new fan as I am.

What I'm confused about is the breaking-up-over-a-woman part. Is that supposed the 'starting point' of the movie or what? Because, if that were the case, I have to say I agree with David and I don't even think it would destroy the essence of the S&H relationship. But then again I haven't seen the whole series, yet, so I guess I'll have to get back to you on this when I have.

The way Season Four was left off, I feel that the breaking up over a woman (in some way) is going backwards for the characters. David has repeatedly said that what made SH special was their relationship. I just don't want him to trade that in for what he thinks would or would not sell.
