I am so glad to finally be done with the poetry unit, the end of that could not have come soon enough. Now that we have moved on to short stories I could not be happier, mostly because I can understand what the author is trying to say. We started the unit with the story “Happy Endings” by Margret Atwood, one of my favorite stories of the entire unit. Im not really exactly sure why I liked it so much, maybe because it was still relevant to modern life, it could also be because of the creative writing style and organization. The story was about how everyone wants to live happily ever after with that special someone, and it would play out exactly how you had always dreamt. Unfortunately, that is not often the case. As we can see in the story the great majority of endings is not at all happy, they all end with a break up of some sort, or even worse “John and Mary dye, John and Mary dye, John and Mary dye” (Atwood). That being said I definitely enjoyed reading this short story along with the many others we discussed throughout the unit.
