Sherlock tees, fanfic to sort of mainstream, and a giggle.

Oh Sherlock Fans! I usually order a men's size in t-shirts to make sure they fit, but I really like the blue they have for women's sizes. Hope it fits! If you're not familiar with TeeFury, each shirt is on sale for 24 hours, so hurry if you want one.

Dear Author: Master of the Universe versus Fifty Shades by E.L James Comparison

This cracks me up for some reason. I've seen this book series mentioned in several venues, with lots of tee-heeing about the reading of such erotic literature by people who normally wouldn't read it. Turns out it's a Twilight AU fanfic with the serial numbers filed off. This has been apparently well-known in that corner of fandom plus other locales, but I wonder how many of the "mainstream" readers who've been eating these books up with a spoon are the same people who turn their noses up at anything Twilight?

I previously read a m/m romance thriller that I later discovered was a Brokeback Mountain AU story with name changes and edits. I would have had no idea, since the characters were totally AU from the short story/movie versions. That author did the same thing as the Fifty Shades author, taking down their fanfic version before before published, but there were still references online about the original.

How do you feel about fanfic being published with name changes? AUs usually have so many differences to start with, it wouldn't bother me much. Stories that are pretty canon-ish? Yeah, that would bother me to just have the names changed and be published. It's as annoying as thinking you've found a new book by a favorite author and discovering it's actually an old book that's been revised or expanded. Might be nice revisions and expansions, but it's not a new story.

And yeah... this could be bad, couldn't it? ;)
