Got my Botox shots yesterday. I'm noticing that as my "wall of pain" headache has been brought to heel by the shots, the downside is I'm feeling the needle more since I don't have constant pain blocking new pain stimulus. Still... better than a migraine. She also gave me a shot near a trigger point under my right shoulder blade that's been acting up off and on for a while. It helped, but created a weird creepy crawly effect for a bit as the muscles tried to figure out what the hell just happened. Since there's three dreaded words in the forecast, Arctic Cold Front, she told me I could go ahead and get the two shots I usually get to break a migraine and it will stay in my system a few days and hopefully prevent a migraine, or at least keep it lower level.
I did manage to get in a question about meds, and she's very leery about putting me on any of the old preventatives I was on. They're not something you can take when you feel a migraine coming on like I do when the weather's changing, it's got nasty withdrawal symptoms, including risk of seizures even if you do it right, plus the side effects can muddle your brain, which is not good for my work or life in general.
She thinks I'm probably as good as I can get right now. Since weather is my trigger 99% of the time, there's not anything I can cut out of my diet or deal with hormone issues, etc. Those don't affect me, though I have notices second helpings of a potato and cheese casserole my mother makes can make me feel icky, because it has aged cheeses in it, and something in those can trigger some people. So I'm stuck being the weather barometer. Seriously, my co-workers see the forecast and have a good idea if I'm going to be at work or not. She did suggest an increase in a med I'm already on, and a followup in a few weeks to see if it helps.
Today, I have a trip to the dentist planned, a combo of dental cleaning and finally (hopefully) cementing a permanent crown. Not sure what that's going to do to me, but hopefully the shots yesterday will deal with potential problems. Botox locks many of the muscles that could spasm, plus I had two anti-inflammatory shots. I'm fully pincushioned and nothing most things don't hurt.
