Wow Serendipity!

Good news: Doing the slower infusion rate seems to have made the side effects less pronounced. So the treatment took an hour longer, but I feel 35% less crappy than last time. But that's not the coolest part of today...

So while I was getting my treatment, I took a little walk in the hospital halls, pushing my IV stand with me, to go get a Creamsicle at the ice cream vending machine in the hallway where the medical school joins the hospital. (Can you tell I've had too much time on my hands at Stanford Hospital a time or two?) And anyway, I was walking along, having eaten my creamsicle, and decided to take a stroll in the halls of the main hospital, when I notice this cluster of distinguished looking older Japanese man, younger Japanese man with video camera, other younger Japanese man with digital camera, and professional-looking Japanese woman, filming me. So I stop and smile and pose for them, since they were obviously attempting to film me, and then I went up and talked to them. The woman was the interpreter. The older man is the owner of a hospital in Osaka, and I didn't get who the younger guys were, but evidently his underlings of some sort.

They asked a lot about why I was there, what my IV was for, how long and how often I was treated. And I realized I have no idea how to say common variable immune deficiency in Japanese! And I spoke my bad Japanese to them, and told them that on Wednesday I was going to Osaka. It was all very cool. The older man (doctor?) expressed concern that I was travelling so soon, and I said "cross my fingers" and there was a long discussion with the interpreter attempting to explain that idiom to him. We talked several moments and then they wished me well when I explained that, Watashi no kangofu ga "Andoria wa doko desu ka" to iteiru. (My nurse will say, "Where is Andrea?") ((Except I probably got that wrong grammatically, but it was enough to get the sense across.))

Anyway, after my treatment I went and got a manicure and pedicure on my way home, so I'll have nice bare feet for Japan.

My fabulous toes. The color is "Disco Dance"

Fabulous fingers, toes in background. Also fabulous plaid pajama pants, and the rainbow blanket of anti emo.

Look how fabulously it matches my hair!

I got a window seat for the flight to Osaka! Yay! Can't believe I leave in less than 36 hours!!!!
