Transient
Chapter 1/?
Pairing: KayaxMana (Schwartz Stein/Moi dix Mois)
Rating: PG
Genre: drama
Disclaimer: I own nothing but the story itself. Don’t earn money from it either.
Author’s note: …I did it again. Another one-shot turned into a series. This first chapter is from Kaya’s POV. It’s hard keeping 5 series running at one time, but I’ll make it somehow… I think.

Kaya and Hora sat in the waiting room, preparing themselves for the business meeting. This was it, this was the chance to make it onto a well-known record label. Getting to sign that contract was crucial.
The man they were going to meet was a big name in the industry that many adored - it pissed Kaya off.
He was envious of the way he could really pass of as a woman while Kaya had to work a bit to achieve the feminine look and how he managed to look as young as him even though he is around 15 years older than Kaya is (not that he could know for sure, but he had to be in his mid thirties). Yet when they entered the office he couldn’t help but be astounded by his presence.
At once Kaya felt insecure and nervous
“Please sit down” the voice was strangely dark and masculine
‘At least something I’m better at…’ he thought to himself
“I’m Hora, it‘s a pleasure to meet you” it was easy to tell that his friend was excited and nervous
“The pleasure is all mine” Mana smiled slightly “…and that must make you Kaya, right?” his smile was warm and the eyes piercing, making Kaya shiver delightfully
“Yes, pleased to meet you”

The meeting went well, the contract with Midi:Nette was signed but there were still a few details left to be worked out. Just as Hora and Kaya were about to leave Mana stopped them
“Be here on Monday at twelve o’clock, there’s a few more things to be discussed.”
Kaya had to stifle a sigh, meetings like these bored him
“We will see you then” Hora smiled widely and bowed “Good bye!”
Just after leaving the office Hora was almost bouncing in excitement
“We got the contract!” he grinned “And he’s so cool and talented, I can’t believe he will be our producer”
“Yeah, it’s great” Kaya didn’t sound as enthusiastic, still in a daze after the meeting. He hadn’t been able to really focus on what was being said and spent most of the time looking at Mana, silently studying the soft features of his face. He hoped the other hadn’t noticed his stare, well, the man was bound to be used to it after ten years in the industry, right? It annoyed him that the man was so damn likeable despite the mostly cold and very professional appearance and manner.

When Monday finally came, Kaya caught himself worrying about what to wear, or rather what Mana would and would not like. After trying out many outfits he finally decided on a knee-length black Lolita dress, knee-high socks, a black curly wig, a pair of cute platform shoes and a little hat to top it off. The outfit showed off his long legs, which he secretly hoped Mana would like. Glancing at the mirror he fixed a lock that was out of place and looked for imperfections in his make-up. He sighed as he checked the clock for the umpteenth time that day, noticing him that it’s still half an hour before Hora would pick him up to go to the meeting with Mana - even though he had spent hours picking out clothes and perfecting his feminine look. Silently he wondered to himself why exactly he was doing all this for him. Because of this being an important meeting with someone who could make or break his carrier? Deep down he knew it wasn’t completely true, but he didn’t want to think about it any more. What makes him so fucking great anyway? Kaya thought bitterly to himself, starting to get annoyed about it all. Sure, he created Malice Mizer and then Moi dix Mois, both being big successes, owning a record label and making beautiful clothes… not to mention his beauty and elegance and that mystery air around him… his thoughts wandered and then he shook his head when he realised he was starting to fawn over him. It annoyed him to no end that the other had made such an impact on him, turning him into a fourteen year old ‘fan girl’ just like the rest of them, he would not worship the ground Mana walked upon like his fans did. I will not fall for him just because he has a nice resume, lots of money and good looks, he’s probably a pain in the ass to work with and a diva anyway he muttered to himself, trying to convince himself that the man must have some huge flaw underneath the perfect surface.  Just as the thought passed his mind he could hear his cell phone ringing
“Hello?” he said, trying to not sound annoyed
“Hello, this is Kara, Mana-san‘s assistant” the female voice told him, sounding apologetic
“What is it?” Kaya knew he sounded a little rude, but he was just puzzled by the sudden call
“Unfortunately an urgent matter came up and Mana-san has to attend to it, cancelling the twelve o’ clock meeting” Kara cleared her throat.  “He apologises for the last minute notice and hopes you and Hora wouldn’t mind going over the contract over dinner tonight.”
“Alright. When and where is he expecting us?”
“At his house, is seven god for you?”
“That’s fine. I do need his address though” Kaya rolled his eyes though still trying to sound polite.
He noted down the address he was being told before hanging up on the assistant, now more annoyed and nervous than before call. Eating dinner with Mana..? At his place?! he felt himself start to panic at the idea. After thinking a while he decided to first call Hora before doing anything else.
“Hey, did you get the call?” Kaya spoke into the reciever
“Yup. I’m so sorry, I can’t make it. I really wanted to go” Hora really sounded like he was sorry
“What? But what about the contract and..?” he gasped
“I’m sure you can do it, Kaya. Listen, I need to go now, I’ll call you tomorrow”
Kaya gaped at the phone as the line went dead. He was both worried about his friend and angry for being forced to go through the paper work and dinner alone.

Climbing out of the taxi he slowly took in the scene laying before him - a large white house (that should be really called a mansion) with coloured glass windows, dark wooden door and frames and surrounding the house was a neat lawn with a wide range of flowers in the flowerbeds and a few trees casting their shadow over the house. It was a nice house and he assumed it would be as beautiful and as ‘Mana-like’ on the inside. He walked up the gravel path to the large door and hesitated for  few seconds before gathering the courage to knock. It only took half a minute for the door to open and Mana greeted him with an almost unnoticeable smile, opening the door enough for him to come in
“Hello Kaya, you’re right on time. I’m glad you could make it here tonight with such short notice”
Mana wore another one of his elegant aristocrat outfits, his long black hair curled in big locks and the ice blue eyes defined with black liner.
“It’s alright. You have a beautiful home” Kaya smiled as he looked around; this was definitely Mana’s home. It was painted in light colours yet had a warm feeling, the dark wooden floor, furniture and velvet curtains added to the gothic feel of it.
“Thank you” Mana’s voice was warm, one could almost hear the smile “please sit down, I’ll get the dinner” he made a gesture towards the dining table which was already set.
He sat down, silently looking around the large living room-slash-dining area. Over the table hung a crystal chandelier, shining softly over it and the blue roses that was the centrepiece. Kaya couldn’t help but think it was the perfect setting for a romantic dinner and his smile became wider when Mana entered with the nice smelling, home-cooked food. The lighting perfectly illuminated the man's soft features, making the pale skin almost glow, and he couldn’t help but try to memorize it.
“You’re a great cook” he said after finishing a bite of the food
“It is a pleasure of mine”  Mana smiled a little “though I don’t have much time to cook these days”
Kaya only nodded, he could only imagine the older man’s schedule.
“As I said last week, we do have some things left to discuss” his tone was now serious, all business.
The ‘discussing’ was mostly small things that Mana was proposing and that in reality only could be answered with a yes. Those matters didn’t matter much - they would still have their freedom to create their own music and have their own style. However, the questioning of their name - Rudolph Steiner - made him annoyed, but he promised to discuss it properly with Hora before their next meeting. Though Mana had made some good points and had ten years of experience in the business it was still irritating to have someone practically say that their name wasn’t good enough. He knew Hora would be angry too. Instead of getting more upset about it he made himself think of what a lovely dinner it really is; the taste of the food, the romantic setting, the beautiful man sitting in front of him… He blushed and looked down on his plate, Mana couldn’t have escaped to notice his stare, could he?
“What’s wrong?” a gentle hand cupped his cheek, the dark voice sounding slightly concerned
“I’m sorry, I’m just a little bit tired” he lied, forcing himself to meet Mana’s eyes
“We can end the meeting now if you want, we have already covered the most things and it is getting late…”
“Is it all right?… well then, I’ll just call for cab” Kaya smiled, feeling a little lost
