[Yuletide] Oh! Reveals, are we doing this?

I guess we are!

When I got my assignment, I said to myself, "Self, your time has come! It's time to give the world the Downton Abbey pastiche Edward Gorey would have wanted!"

So, if you would like to read about manor houses that constantly throw parties in which someone is always getting murdered that some very specialized employee always has to tidy up and take care of, have I got a fic for you. Come for the corpse, stay for the vindictive taxidermy, no canonical knowledge necessary, though links available, as the videos are very brief. (Wait, that's not what you think. Or is it?)

Summary: Murder, mystery and mayhem are de rigeur for any household worth its salt. Of course, where there's fun, there's also someone who has to clean it up. A downstairs look at an upstairs pastime. No one ever woke Miss Gloaming, no matter how early they knocked. She was always up first. On this particular pre-dawn morning, she was writing a letter by candlelight to her cousin up in Yorkshire. She’d have been disturbed either way; there was no missing or mistaking the sodden bootfalls clomping up the corridor.

She opened the door after the first thumps. Mr. Hardthwicke, the head groundskeeper, glared apologetically beneath the orange-tinted lamps, a green plaid boulder with large and lovingly maintained teeth. “Your pardon for the hour, Miss Gloaming,” he growled, his mustache fluttering, “but there’s another body in the pond and you’re needed.”

I was deeply pleased that the title spells out WGBH, the Boston PBS station that distributes Mystery!. I also had a lot of fun with this story! (Although I was semi-amazed no one asked if I had written it, because in many ways, rhythmically especially, it feels just the same as the MCU therapy llama fic. *eyedarts*) Many thanks to
eudaimon for confirming the idea was a good one and to
skygiants for her always A+ beta. Hope you enjoy it, friends!
