Since becoming a Watcher, and that still sounded immensely strange to Xander, one thing Xander had no trouble doing was sleeping in late. Actually, Xander had no trouble sleeping in before becoming a Watcher and inheriting a few Slayers of his own, but being a Watcher made it more of a requirement. Or necessity, depending on whom you asked. Slayers kept late hours

As he worked in the kitchen, Henry tried to work the dead rabbit and chicken question out. From what he'd been able to put together, Spencer had been hit pretty hard by the Wave- having entire buildings disappear to be replaced by a large number of sold sucking roaches will do that to a place, but the animals had mostly died of the plague (the roaches prefer humans). With the exception of the nasty last night, there hadn't been any large predators to worry about. Now something had snacked on a large number of small animals just a few hundred yards from where they slept and Henry hadn't even heard it. It could be something natural, fox or coyote, but the fact that the animals didn't make a commotion when they were being slaughtered, seemed to point a different direction. Henry hoped that didn't mean that there was something foul trying to get a foothold in his town

Xander made sure his gun was secure in the waistband of his jeans - and once again considered purchasing a holster - and followed Henry outside to find the tire

Henry began making mental notes. He was hoping never to need the information, but he reckoned he'd better commit it to memory in case. Especially because, if it was in his head, that meant it was in Noah's head, too, and Henry wanted the kid to have every piece of defensive information possible. Noah was so slight that Henry sometimes wondered how he didn't blow away in a strong wind. Him facing a vampire was something Henry couldn't quite imagine

Xander nodded and let Henry go off to check on things inside while he loaded the Hummer. Henry reminded him a bit of Giles, in a less stuffy, less uptight, less British way. Of course, in recent years Giles was all about the less stuffy, but the memories of the polished stuttering librarian always remained.
Going down that road brought to mind all sorts of memories and Xander wasn't in the mood to deal with them. Willow was alive and that was good enough for now. He'd think about and worry about everyone else later.

continued from here"Shit," Jason said under his breath as Noah moved away. The last thing he meant to do was alienate one of the only friendly people left on the earth. He shoved his hands in his pockets and turned with regret on his face. "You're right," he confessed, "we probably shouldn't. It's just, well, it's been a while, you know? I like women, but the last couple years I've found myself becoming more, um, flexible, if you know what I mean. And then you were flirting and I was flirting and I really like being able to flirt with someone, anyone, and you smelled really good…" he snapped his mouth shut, knowing that he'd just crossed that line between what he meant to say and what his subconscious wanted to say. Noah did smell good, not sick or dying like so many had been before the end. He smelled clean, healthy, and both his wolf and human senses longed to be around someone whole, strong, safe. Not as strong as pack, maybe, but still good, still comforting. He missed that, missed being around his trusted friends. It

Okay, wow, Noah though to himself. Jason was taking this to heart. Noah had expected him to get angry or defensive, not apologetic. He looked so hurt, Noah couldn't help by say, "It's all right

[Jason] The Start of a New Pack?newdawnjasonOctober 17 2006, 04:10:23 UTC
Jason froze as Noah stood so close. No one had come this close to him in so long. He missed the thousand casual touches that the weres he worked and lived with shared. It was as if his skin hungered, and at that moment he understood what Nathaniel used to describe as Damien's longing for contact. Instinctively, he inhaled the scent of the man in front of him, memorizing his uniqueness and marking him as pack. A new pack brother, perhaps, someone who he would now recognize anywhere. And hopefully, one who would remain a friend and ally

God it felt good to hold onto someone. It seemed like Jason felt the same way, even if he did back off sooner than Noah would have wanted and then put up the tiniest of macho fronts. Noah had to laugh at the idea that he could belt anyone. Then Jason had to go and say that he wouldn't lie about them, if there was a them and Noah warmed toward the man even more.
"Backpack- I can help with that," Noah offered and opened the nearby closet to reveal a ridiculously large assortment of luggage. At the amused look on Jason's face, "Noah added, that's nothing, you should see the number of green shirts Henry's got held in reserve in case we ever find his son Shawn."
