[Jason] Feeling unsure... newdawnjason October 7 2006, 04:17:04 UTC
ENTER JASON

Jason huddled further under the blankets debating whether he ought to show his face or not. How was he going to explain himself? Fully healed and not starving anymore. It was just too good an opportunity to pass up. The pain in his leg was bad and the hunger was worse; all he needed to do was shift and eat a few rabbits, and poof, both problems solved. At least he made sure not to eat them all. After all, how would they get more bunnies if there weren’t enough left in the hutch to reproduce. And he didn’t touch the chickens. It was always harder to get feathers out of his teeth than fur. Besides, they were noisy. Rabbits were quiet and didn’t flap their wings when you tore their throats out.

Alright Schulyer, he thought, time to face the music. He got up and wrapped the blanket around himself. If he were home, he'd just walk in naked. But since he figured he'd already shocked them enough, he decided the conservative approach would be best. He walked toward the smell of oatmeal and coffee.

"I see Jason's the only one of us smart enough to stay in bed past the crack of dawn," he heard Noah say as he got to the doorway.

"Well, not that smart," Jason quipped as he entered the kitchen. "Thanks again for coming to my rescue and letting me stay here last night. I hate to ask, but does anyone have an extra pair of pants I can borrow? Mine got a little shredded."

After accepting the envelope of instant oatmeal, Xander made himself a bowl, grabbed a cup of coffee - black, the only way to have it - and took a seat at the table. He nodded a greeting to Noah, but was far more interested in eating than chatting. Already forming a plan for the day, he intended to head down in the basement and see about getting that HAM radio up and going.

(A little boost of Willow's Witchy-Foo would go a long way.) The thought bubbled to the surface before Xander could stop it, prompting another one of those pangs of loneliness and sorrow. He was glad for Jason's question as it provided a distraction.

"You're a little shorter than me," Xander said, "But I might have an extra pair of sweats. Long as you're not particular about color. They're from the local university at my town and not everyone likes the gold and red motiff.

"Just let me fin --"

Xander stopped in midsentence as the air around him warmed and then cackled. It was nothing drastic, nothing that would have been noticeable to anyone else immediately, but Xander recognized that particular feeling. That was magick.

In the next moment, a glowing ball appeared, hovering over his coffee cup.

Did you know your girlfriend is Tinkerbell? The memory of that conversation made him smile. He hadn't even realized that he'd put down the coffee cup and opened his hand, or that everyone else in the kitchen was gaping with astonishment or backing away.

"Xander?" Willow's voice called to him from the source of light.

"Sorry, Xander's not in right now, he managed to poke out his other eye. If you leave a message at the beep, he'll be happy to return your call." Xander couldn't resist the joking response. A huge grin spread across his face and he was practically dancing in place. He knew that Willow would take his joke in stride - and probably chide him for it as well. Xander didn't care.

Willow was alive! Willow was alive, and maybe just maybe there was hope for the others.

ENTER WILLOW’S VOICE only for this segment

“Xander? What do you mean you poked out your other eye? I’m away for a few months and the world goes to hell and back. Who cares, I am just glad to hear your voice. Where are you? I tried to teleport to you , but I kind of got lost. I’m in south Carolina at a farm in a place called Saluda.
There are two other guys here. One ‘s name is josh and the is Shawn something or other I can’t remember.
I need to find you. Are you okay? Are you hurt? Are you sick? Xander?”

Henry didn't bother to say you're welcome, Noah already knew it.

Living with Noah was a mixed blessing- they were like night and day, Henry and Noah, but it could have been far worse. Noah was a good kid and he was pretty good at knowing when to leave Henry the hell alone- maybe too good. He gave Henry too much space, considering the damned link between them and how it hurt Noah. The kid was a real Pollyanna and, sometimes, Henry couldn't resist doing for him just to see him smile. It made up for some of the negatives- like not having any mental privacy. Point is, when Henry got the chance, to do some little thing to make Noah happy, he tried to take the time and do it. Hence the tea and breakfast.

Speak of the Devil, Jason came in a moment after Noah spoke, wrapped in a blanket and looking for pants.

Henry was about to offer to let Jason go through the clothing stores that were in the house next-door for clothes (Xander, too), when a small dot of light started talking to Xander, who was grinning ear to ear. Noah was between Henry and that thing and Henry automatically, slid an arm over his shoulder and down across his chest to pull the other man back away from it.

Noah looked over at the man who had just entered- Jason looked much better than he had the night before. The sleep must have helped a lot.

He headed over to join Xander at the table, but Henry pulled him back before he got there, spilling his tea. "Henry, what-" he started to ask, but then what Henry had seen registered and he stepped back willingly. "Uh- Xander, what's that?"

[Jason] Magic in the air... newdawnjason October 9 2006, 02:49:57 UTC
Jason felt a prickling sensation in the air just as the light appeared next to Xander. Power, the likes of which he hadn't felt in a long time. When the light started talking, his hopes started to pick up. Anyone who could produce a spell like this must be a pretty powerful witch. Maybe she would be able to help him find a way out of this dimension. She could be his ticket home!

The blanket around him slipped down a bit, forgotten, as he stepped closer to Xander and the light. "Wow," he said softly, "this kinda makes cell phones obsolete now, doesn't it?" He grinned at the light, wondering if the girl with the babbling voice on the other end could see him.

"I was kidding, Willow," Xander didn't stop grinning. "God, it's great to hear your voice! You're in where? South Carolina? How did you get from - never mind."

"uh - Xander, what's that?" Noah's tremorous question interrupted Xander.

He looked up, surprised and noticed the wary looks on the faces of Noah and Henry and the far too interested and excited look on Jason's. (Ok, two who think that the Boogeyman is a story made up to scare little kids and one who probably knows otherwise,) Xander decided.

"This is - well, it's sort of a magick spell. A long distance locator and communication spell. Yes, I said spell. Yes, I said magick. No, I'm not crazy, although you're welcome to think that. All those children's stories that you think were made up just to scare little kids into listening to their parents? They have a real world basis. The Boogeyman is real. The things that go bump in the night really do go bump in the night.

"And oh yeah, it's a ball of light. It can't hurt you, so you don't need to back away unless one of you has a light phobia I should know about."

Xander returned his attention to Willow's spell, "Sorry Wills, you startled the folks that I'm having breakfast work. You know, they're still at the 'vampires are real' part of the equation. Actually, they haven't gotten to that part of the equation yet."

Willow grins, thinking hey it worked!!!!

“Xander, it’s peachy keen jellybeans. I’m in South Carolina, a little town called Saluda, just west of Columbia, SC. I’m staying with two guys.. A doctor named Josh and a want to be psychic named Shawn who has less magic in his body then you do.

Xander, are you okay? You’re not sick, or hurt, or dying are you ?

Just let them know that I’m staying right where I am, and that if they want to come down here as well, we have room, food, shelter and well me.

Kennedy is gone Xander. She was the first to die from the fate’s handmaiden. I’m the only from the South American slayer group to survive.

Xander, hurry to me… I’m not sure I can make it much longer on my own with out someone to ground me.
I miss you .

Oh and who’s the cute blonde? “

[Henry] Oh look, the world is flat spencertheelder October 9 2006, 13:09:06 UTC
Henry listened to Xander explain that the world was completely upside-down, which had become apparent over the last weeks to anyone with a on ounce of sanity, but something about his tone, the calm, slightly patronizing way he explained it told Henry he'd known all that long before the Wave. At least this sort of thing made the kid make more sense- his training must have been pretty damn untraditional if he fought vampires and did magic.

Henry didn't catch everything the light said (it was "talking" too fast), but Xander seemed to know who -or whatever was controlling it. Strangely, the light seemed to be inviting them to South Carolina? That was a far distance to travel through what was now basically unknown territory when they had all they needed right here.

And Noah had thought his life was unusual. Xander talked to people via magic spells. That was new and novel, even if she was hard to follow. Did she say, Shawn? How likely was that? Nah, it couldn't be- he wasn't going to let Henry's delusion that his son might still be alive get his hopes up. Shawn had died in the Deluge. It was crazy to think otherwise.

But, more people- that would be great! Noah's excitement at the prospect of finding others dulled significantly as Henry decided they weren't going. Period. If Henry wouldn't go, how could Noah?

Noah pushed Henry's arm off and stepped closer, so he could hear better. "That's amazing," Noah said, more to himself than anyone else. It was kind of pretty.

Jason grinned wider and waved at the light. "Hey there," he greeted the light, "I'm Jason. So, are you as pretty in person as you sound?" He was excited now. Magic was real, vampires were real, and for the first time since he had arrived in this god-forsaken world, he felt like he'd found something familiar. Except...

South Carolina? Why did she want them to come to South Carolina? That was exactly the opposite direction from St. Louis. He'd traveled so long to get this far. He hated the idea of going away from his goal instead of towards it. But if this girl was as powerful as her magic seemed to be, she may be the best, or only, way home. He looked at the others in the room. Henry didn't seem thrilled with the idea of leaving, but Noah might. He wasn't sure though; the two of them seemed to have a kind of connection. One might not leave without the other. Xander would probably be the deciding factor. Jason turned to him and asked, "Why would she want us to travel there? Wouldn't it be better for her to come here?"

[Xander] South Freaking Carolina? fikgirl October 9 2006, 17:08:12 UTC
Xander listened to Willow's commentary and invitation to South Freaking Carolina and then blinked at her reference to Jason.

"Wills, penis," Xander said simply. "Unless there's something you're not sharing, the last time I checked you were off of penises." He knew that his words might be blunt and shocking to those listening, but this was his best friend and he could speak frankly.

"This is Willow by the way," Xander explained to the room at large. "Well, Willow's voice anyway. Willow is a super bad kick ass Wicca, and one of my oldest and best friends." Xander blinked as his vision blurred and he swatted at his eye. (I am not crying! It's dust. There's dust in the air.)

He listened to Jason's flirtation and question and turned back to Willow, "South Carolina is a long way, there. Why can't you and your buddies come here? Or maybe we should meet somewhere in the middle?"

But people ... Willow found more people, although from the sound of things there were increasing numbers of men. Lots of men all around and one lesbian.

Yep, this was fate's idea of a colossal joke.

Xander, I like boys too. You know me, you got to love who you love.
I will have to talk to the others, but I think here is nice and warm and we have livestock for fresh milk, and an area that we can farm so we have more food, and well I’m here.
But I willcome to you if you think it would be best. It’s your call.

Xander, It’s getting harder to control the magic’s. please hurry…

When you know what you guys wanna do.. Or if you need me, just hold your snoopy keychain and say my name three times. It’s a tracking charm.
( willow grins)

And Blondie. You really are cute!

So is that cool?

Xander.. hurry and choose."

*light fades to a small tiny guiding light kind of thing.

[Henry] Staying put, thank you very much spencertheelder October 10 2006, 11:58:58 UTC
Once the light faded, Henry proclaimed, "Xander, Jason, you're welcome to stay with us and I don't see much point in going, but it's your choice. We've got all we need here. I'm staying. If you do go, feel free to take supplies- food, clothing, weapons, what have you. Noah knows where everything is." Then he turned around to go back to his coffee, stopped, turned again and added, "Keep your eyes open, something very hungry snacked on the small livestock last night- all of them. Avoid taking Warren Avenue out of town, that's beetle central. If you do tangle with them- don't touch them."

He gave a weary look to Noah, went to the counter for his coffee and drank the half-cup remainder in one gulp (wishing it wasn't so damned early so he could justify drinking something stronger).

Noah wanted to go; there was no doubt, especially if Xander was going. He would work on Henry- maybe he could convince the old goat. Noah had won arguments before- he just had to be strong and get Henry to see reason- actual reason, not Henry reason. But that was for later, when they could talk alone. Noah knew there would be no reasoning with Henry if there were others there.

Noah took a deep breath, put down his breakfast, and offered, "Xander, let's get you those tires you need." Then he turned to Jason. "I'll help you find some pants- what are you a 32 waist, 34 inseam? There's a few that would do you next door." He reached out a hand towards the man's arm to guide him toward the back door. "You know, naked men are something of a hobby of mine," he teased.

[Jason] To Go or Not To Go… newdawnjason October 10 2006, 20:21:15 UTC
Jason preened a bit when the firefly girl called him cute. Nice to see that he could still charm the ladies. If there were any ladies about, that is. Unfortunately, though, it seemed like if he wanted to meet this particular lady, he was going to have to go to her. He didn't like the thought of going in completely the opposite direction as St. Louis. The last two months he'd only had one goal in mind: get to St. Louis no matter what. That's where he was before his life got turned upside-down, so that's where he needed to be to get his life right side up again.

At least, he thought so.

But now the only person who might be able to help him reach his goal was in South Carolina, of all places. How could he take the chance and go all the way across the country when he was so close to being back in Missouri? But then, how could he not when the only friendly power he had seen in the last two months was all the way in South Carolina. Crap. It was enough to make his head hurt.

Henry and Noah were talking but he didn't pay attention until Noah tugged on his arm. Clothing, right. Pants would be good. "You know," Noah said to him, "naked men are something of a hobby of mine." Jason looked back at Noah, eyes wide, then grinned. "Well then," he replied, "it might interest you to know that being naked is something of a profession of mine." Jason gave him a wink before sauntering ahead out the back door.
