[Xander] The Truth About VampiresfikgirlOctober 15 2006, 16:03:11 UTC
Xander made sure his gun was secure in the waistband of his jeans - and once again considered purchasing a holster - and followed Henry outside to find the tire.
"Hollywood got most of that right, believe it or not. Well, not so much the garlic. Angel seemed to dislike it on general principal but Spike would eat anything as long as he could mix blood in it and -" Xander paused catching Henry's surprised look. He sighed and winced, muttering, "I do not believe that these words are about to pass my lips."
Turning to Henry, Xander explained. "Angel and Spike were good vampires. The only two I ever me that I would say that about and trust not to take a bite out of me - and not just because Buffy and Faith would kick their asses. That's another one of those long stories.
"But yeah, stake through the heart is pretty much guaranteed to take down a vamp. Likewise, sunlight will burn them. Holy water and crosses are real good too. They aren't nocturnal though. They can wander around during the day - they just don't tend to come out in sunlight 'cause of the whole burning to a crisp thing. Require an invitation to get inside the house, which is good. And if they bite you, you won't turn into a vamp. Mostly they bite to feed which means they kill you. Turning you into a vamp … well, that takes work and dedication and mostly the vamps just want to feed and run."
Henry began making mental notes. He was hoping never to need the information, but he reckoned he'd better commit it to memory in case. Especially because, if it was in his head, that meant it was in Noah's head, too, and Henry wanted the kid to have every piece of defensive information possible. Noah was so slight that Henry sometimes wondered how he didn't blow away in a strong wind. Him facing a vampire was something Henry couldn't quite imagine.
"So what your telling me is that, like us, demons, vampires, things of that sort aren't always evil- they have a choice." Henry shook his head disbelievingly. "Something tells me they still don't settle down into quiet suburban life very often, heh?"
Henry opened the shed, walked to the back and lugged out one of the tires he figured were a good match for Xander's vehicle. "Why don't you get this one in the Hummer. I just want to check in with Noah." He started walking towards the house next door because the truth was, Xander's assessment aside, Henry didn't like the idea of Noah alone with a stranger for longer than he had to be.
Xander nodded and let Henry go off to check on things inside while he loaded the Hummer. Henry reminded him a bit of Giles, in a less stuffy, less uptight, less British way. Of course, in recent years Giles was all about the less stuffy, but the memories of the polished stuttering librarian always remained.
Going down that road brought to mind all sorts of memories and Xander wasn't in the mood to deal with them. Willow was alive and that was good enough for now. He'd think about and worry about everyone else later.
