A Good Soul-mate For Rufus?

In your opinion who would make the ideal lover for Rufus Shinra? I find it odd that most people describe him as one of the most attractive Final Fantasy characters of all time, yet he doesn't have any kind of romantic love story. I know he was introduced as an antagonist, but I think he was more of an anti-hero then anything, even in Advent

Hmm...this is a good question!

I'm not actually sure if I can quite see Rufus in a romantic relationship...definitely not pre-meteor, as then his main focus seemed to be power...any female companion...well, I doubt there would have been much emotion there, if you know what I'm saying! :) And in the time between meteor and AC, it seems Rufus was pretty intent on keeping his identity a secret, so the only woman who probably knew he was alive would have been Elena...and I just can't see that. (Plus, I just love Tseng/Elena...<3)

Post AC...out of the canon girls...I actually see Tifa as being fairly well suited for him...she is such a nurturing person, and Rufus definitely seems like someone who needs someone to take care of him...he's such a little boy in some ways and Tifa is so maternal...but I suppose that relationship would be slightly Oedipal! But really, not to that extent of course...but I think she could help him grow and provide him with the support he needs to find a new path in life. But of course that pairing could never truly work for me because I am *such* a Cloud/Tifa fan...

I guess I just see Rufus as being somewhat solitary...kind of like Seifer, only without the mind-control from an evil sorceress...though it is easier for me to see Seifer with a woman than Rufus. I just see him initially as too power-hungry, and then later, if he did truly change, as too focused on correcting his actions...maybe he just needs a Rinoa/Aerith type character to drag his feelings out though :) (Hmm...Rufus/Aerith...ya know, if things had worked out differently, I could *almost* see it!)

Oh yeah, I can tell love was the last thing on Rufus' mind pre-meteor. As for Elena being the only woman probably knowing he was alive thought, I'm not too sure. I hope you have played Dirge of Cerberus, I'd hate to spoil anything for you. But it appears that Yuffie saw Rufus being put into and carried away by an air ambulance after meteor fell. So knowing her, she must have told Cloud and friends. That's why I think Cloud wasn't all that shocked when Rufus called him to a meeting, but I digress. And yeah I too am a fan of Tseng/Elenea. I really wished they got more time in AC. But it was nice seeing them work together to save their friend/boss. :)

I must say your claim as much better support/reasons then my Rufus/Yuffie idea. I like how mentioned Tifa's mothering nature. Yeah it’s easy to assume that Rufus lacked allot of love growing up. And Tifa enjoys talking about those kinds of things with others. I hope Cloud goes out with Tifa though. It looks like Cloud and Rufus are the same in that category, not all that into love/dating. *sighs*

Rufus and Aerith...if only the story didn't go the way it did, I too could see that happening. I'd love to see a story about those two. Who knows? If I have the time, I might just write one. It has been a while since I wrote fan fiction. ^^;
