A Good Soul-mate For Rufus?

May 11, 2007 12:07

In your opinion who would make the ideal lover for Rufus Shinra? I find it odd that most people describe him as one of the most attractive Final Fantasy characters of all time, yet he doesn't have any kind of romantic love story. I know he was introduced as an antagonist, but I think he was more of an anti-hero then anything, even in Advent ( Read more... )

Lol. Come to think of it, you too made a good point. I couldn't explain why many fans never considered himself to be committed to a relationship, and you answered it. As shown with in the father and son relationship with his father Rufus doesn't like to be held back or controlled. So I suppose those qualities he acquired as a teen would cripple his chances of a long lasting relationship. ^^;

Yeah I wish those interacted a bit more. :/

Hmm...this is a good question!

I'm not actually sure if I can quite see Rufus in a romantic relationship...definitely not pre-meteor, as then his main focus seemed to be power...any female companion...well, I doubt there would have been much emotion there, if you know what I'm saying! :) And in the time between meteor and AC, it seems Rufus was pretty intent on keeping his identity a secret, so the only woman who probably knew he was alive would have been Elena...and I just can't see that. (Plus, I just love Tseng/Elena...<3 ( ... )

Oh yeah, I can tell love was the last thing on Rufus' mind pre-meteor. As for Elena being the only woman probably knowing he was alive thought, I'm not too sure. I hope you have played Dirge of Cerberus, I'd hate to spoil anything for you. But it appears that Yuffie saw Rufus being put into and carried away by an air ambulance after meteor fell. So knowing her, she must have told Cloud and friends. That's why I think Cloud wasn't all that shocked when Rufus called him to a meeting, but I digress. And yeah I too am a fan of Tseng/Elenea. I really wished they got more time in AC. But it was nice seeing them work together to save their friend/boss ( ... )

Yuffie seems to need a man who can provide for her, won't be afraid to speak his mind, can handle her overwhelming personality, and of course be able to protect her when the time is right.

I hardly think Yuffie needs to be protected and provided for. I mean, this is the girl who spent the game first trying to save her country, and then save the world! If anything, she needs a man who would be a good tempering influence on her when she becomes the leader of Wutai. Rufus wouldn't be accepted by Wutaians at all because of the war, and he wouldn't want to take backseat anyway.

I don't see Rufus as having a functionally romantic relationship. A wife for children and public image, a mistress/male equivalent in private. Who that would be, hell if I know. I don't think any in-game character fits that, although I am fond of pre-Shinra building destruction Rufus/Reeve.

Yeah I know Yuffie isn't helpless or anything. She is tough, but every character in the game required help from another some point, in both the game and in AC. But nevertheless, I agree that her battle experience gives her an edge and makes her a awesome foe for anyone, not saying she can beat Rufus though. But that was a nice point you made about Rufus not being excepted by the Wutaians. But I can't tell you how many times were I see cases were two people from enemy groups begin to care for one another, and in the end...the two groups just put their differences aside. I'm not sure if you are into Avatar: The Last Airbender, but that show has a pretty good example, i.e. Katara and Zuko. Nevertheless, I'm sure it won't be easy, and there is a chance that it can never work out, like you said...no doubt. :D

It's funny you mention this, because I'm currently writing a fic that has Rufus and Yuffie as a couple, and it's surprised me that this pairing is rare. I don't think I've seen another fic. I like them together for the reasons you mentioned above, especially talking about Yuffie's "overwhelming personality".

Oh thanks! It's a bit of a long ongoing series, though, it is rather Rufus and Turks-centric, with Tifa and Yuffie as the other protagonists. Are you ok with posting ongoing fics and things like that here? I know this is primarly a FF discussion community, so...=P

It's at seraphitus, if you'd like to give it a preview?

Oh yeah, I don't mind at all. In fact, there are a a hand full of members here who love posting fan fiction. I mean, its ok ever now and again, as long as we don't go of track from our main goal, Final Fantasy debate. But yeah, you can post your fan fiction here if you want. :D

ME! No joke *ahem* actually there is this essay somewhere written by someone trying to prove that Yuffie and Rufus have been a couple all through FFVII. With all respect to the person I really don't think that would be true. O_o ( ... )

I love reading Rufus/Tseng/Elena! It's probably my fav threesome pairing even though it is fairly rare. And I also have a soft spot for Rufus/Elena - but I like to think of that pairing as being a bit AU - like if Elena wasn't completely infatuated with Tseng. But yeah you're right about the commitment thing - as they have each other he wouldn't have to be too involved or get too attached to either of them ( ... )
