Shin-Ra does not own the Gold Saucer.
I just reinstalled FF7 with a fresh copy, so there's no hacks or edits or anything.
Since this has come up a few times, and I was pretty sure that Shin-ra DOESN'T own the Gold Saucer, I went to check.
If there's a spot I missed where it does indeed say Shin-Ra owns the Gold Saucer, please let me know where and when I can see this (I have saves all throughout the game so I don't have to play up to it.)
Besides, if Shin-Ra owned it in actuality, wouldn't there be Shin-Ra logos everywhere inside the Saucer? Shin-Ra has it's logos/banners all over everything they make and own if it's not supposed to be a secret or stealthy. - Something I observed while playing the game the first few times.
I can imagine that Shin-Ra gave Dio a loan or something that he would have to pay back, or support, or maybe they build the Saucer itself, it's not unusual for companies to have corporate partners without being owned by them.
