[The Master crouches in front of his device, the screen and camera tilted up somewhat. It's still dark out, so his face is lit only by a combination of the screen, and by flickering lights off to the right.]

It took me long enough. Right! So: barrier to the left-- [He turns the screen, revealing strange flickering tears in what seems to be the air ( Read more... )

That... doesn't look like any kind of home.

It's as close to home as I had left after the Time War. In fact, it was really my home before the Time War. [He pats the console, looking a little bit sad.] It's my TARDIS. Or, rather, it's pretending to be my TARDIS.

If it's only pretending, what is it really?

Not to sound totally clueless, but I've never heard of a time war or a TARDIS.

I...don't know. [He really doesn't like saying this.] I have a lot of machinery and not one piece of it thinks this is anything other than a TARDIS. But I know it's not. I'd be able to hear her if it was.

No, very few humans have. [He sounds a little bit like he's reciting.] The Time War was an enormous war, fought mainly between my species, the Time Lords and a very nasty species, called the Daleks. Their goal was to kill off everyone who wasn't them. Eventually, a--the Doctor destroyed them all, but in the process, also destroyed all the Time Lords, and our home planet.
TARDIS stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space. It's essentially a spacetime ship.

Her--oh. Right.

That's... wow. All questions answered, definitely. Sorry to hear about your.... species. And planet.

Oh, and it suddenly occurs to me! If you could, I'd really appreciate it if you could feed Masha until I get back.

Sure! Not a problem. Consider Masha fed.

I hope you can come back soon.

Thank you.

I hope so too. I believe these are little pockets, right off of the City, so it shouldn't be too difficult. Especially as I broke into my laboratory today. How lucky for me that I decorated with stained glass.

A lab with stained glass windows? ...That's nifty.

It's tacky. My tastes have changed substantially since I last lived here. At least I kept it up to date in technology.

Okay, maybe tacky, but also original.

What are you trying to do? Escape?

Yes. Obviously, I can't trust this machinery entirely but I can get some sort of result, and then analyse what result it gives me. It has to abide by some of the rules of my actual TARDIS, otherwise it wouldn't be fooling all of the machinery I brought with me and most of my senses. Maybe I can jump start it into forming a way back. It's designed to teleport, after all.

Good luck doing that. I hope it works for you.
