I can hobble without crutches! As of about 15 minutes ago I can go back and forth in my house between the living room and kitchen!

The crutches will be with me this weekend though, as I don't know how much of it I can do over time, and the ankle tends to tighten up a lot overnight.

I don't know if I'll be driving by the weekend. If I do, I'll have to get the car jump started as the battery is dead. I doubt I'll have enough motion in my right foot to use it for driving, so I'd probably have to use my left foot. Doable, though I wouldn't be too thrilled in heavy, stop and go traffic. Cast is off! Another set of x-rays confirms that healing continues, nicely. :) As for the "what do I go home with" issue, I have the best of both worlds; an air cast that fits inside a shoe, that can get wet, and I can remove it when I want. The cast comes off tomorrow. :) Then I can start putting weight on it. I'm not sure if I'm getting a walking cast or just a naked foot to take home. I'm not sure which I prefer; I slammed my leg *again* Saturday in the kitchen in an incident nearly identical to the one a few weeks ago. Not a very good picture of it, but here is a photo of the x-ray taken on Tuesday, which shows the plate and screws in my ankle. The actual printout I have here has much better contrast, I might be better off trying to scan it. :-P

I have an appt with the surgeon tomorrow. Not because of the incident Saturday, (thank you again Marcy, for soothing my fears), this is just the regular two week follow up. Hopefully I'll leave with a cast that can get wet, because I'm tired of wrapping the leg in plastic every day to shower. (What I don't know yet is how I'm getting there, as I ( Read more... )

It all went fine. I'm home, Angel's setting up the bed on the floor down here. I need to keep my foot UP, so I'm going to do that, and I'll probably be online less the next few weeks.

I'll update on the hilarity that was the visit.

Everyone was lovely, and thanks to the anesthesiologist, I was not even slightly nauseous afterward.
