Well, it seems that I am getting better about writing in my journal. I think it does help me sort things out. Only the future will tell.
I got really frustrated near the end of the work day yesterday, because we seem to be sliding behind schedule again. The other three guys in the development team (two my "juniors") convinced me that we need to take a step back and evaluate where we are in the coding process and make sure we've covered all the bases. That's not a bad idea (it's quite a good one, in fact), but we are very pressed for time. The whole project is behind schedule because the initial plan we made was woefully insufficient, so we are now shooting from the hip, designing and writing code as we come to it. There are many problems with this approach, but we've been forced into it lately.
Today, though, we are going to try something else. Jerry (the more experienced of my teammates) and I are going to take the time necessary to plot out our very short-term goals. I think it would be a good compromise to make small plans, complete them, then make a new plan to complete. Jerry and I can do the planning while the junior guys do the grunt work. I'm fairly optimistic about this plan. I guess, since I'm writing here more often, you'll hear about the results.
Work is my life these days, but I did manage to get in some fun time last night. At long last, I managed to play
World of Warcraft again. I got my dwarf hunter, Gilma, up to level 11 and trained a snow leopard as a pet, which I named Rygar. Tonight, I plan on taming a bear, because they have a special ability that they use on me all the time. I want to see how pets use and learn abilities, and Rygar doesn't have any special abilities.
I also learned how to build a basement and an attic in
Sims 2.
mrs_ladybug is thoroughly enjoying the game, so we've started bargaining over who gets to use the computer.
My work is a game, a very serious game.
