By that point in time, it had been several days since Nill last the men that had originally been chasing her through the backstreets and alleys of Abyss, and the petite girl almost thought that maybe she wouldn’t be seeing them anymore; could it be possible that they’d given up on trying to find her, and that maybe she would be safe from then on? It was a nice thought, at least, and one that Nill didn’t mind entertaining in the least. She didn’t have to run every day for the rest of her life. (would they even bother with her for that long? It was hard to say.)

If one were to ask, and she could actually respond, Nill wouldn’t have been able to tell them how she’d made her way to the junkyard, or just how long she’d even been there, (an hour, a day, several?) but it was an easy enough thing to guess that not many people had exactly been walking around, and none of the ones that had been around had taken any notice of the little blond-haired-blue-eyed girl half-hiding under a ragged blanket, moving from one spot to another every day. So ( ... )

Readjusting the stick between his lips the pale blue eyes lifted off the metal tablet which like the hovering board, was illuminated with a faint blue glow around the edges, written words glowing out from the black lighting. He glanced up-eyes scanning over the mounds of junk, he could have sworn he felt a sudden burst of that feeling you get when you’re being watched. “….” Popping the lollipop free from his mouth, two fingertips pinched the plastic stick, giving the half melted green candy ‘wrench’ a spin along the gloved pads.

Nothing…Giving a limp shrug of his shoulders he turned back around only to reach down and pick up an object hidden by the shadows. The object passing under a dim ray of over head lighting was a gun, just a ordinary hand gun for protection because Spanner may not have been phased by his surroundings but he sure as hell wasn’t stupid to go unprotected. This weapon found itself being wedged against a strap on his suit. There. If something had been out there watching him perhaps they saw the gun ad would think ( ... )

Had the man noticed her just then? Had she managed to-without noticing-make some kind of noise to indicate where she was hidden? The girl-barely more than a child, really-didn’t know, and had no real way of finding out. Of course, she heard the sudden quiet and pause in movement before it picked back up once more, and maybe someone else would have been relieved by that, but the person (whoever he was) wasn’t talking to himself anymore, and it didn’t take long for the sound of debris being quietly crushed as he walked to reach Nill’s ears; but he’d been rather close by from the very beginning, and though she probably had slightly better hearing than most, she couldn’t quite figure out of those footsteps were moving towards her or away. She didn’t know about the gun, hadn’t seen it yet, but if she had, she would have probably bolted ( ... )

With gun half on his hip that mechanic relatively went about his business without much of a worry or stray paranoid thought to bother him. Come what may he was down here for a reason and he only could make one trip a month down to Abyss. Attention stolen by his task he didn’t even notice the little form of wide blue eyes staring at him from under a tattered blanket-that was only five steps away from him. Apparently his being watched sense wasn’t kicking in or he was just out right ignoring it. After all, a lot of shadows in these parts had eyes.

“A-ah!”A smile curved to his face as his hands reached forward, fingers clamping against a strip of bullet hole infested metal. “This might have enough density!” there he was again talking to himself, hands giving a testing bend to the metal to see if it would easily curve to the pressure--- turning back around with his little treasure he froze in mid step- blue eyes--- fixating on a pair that were watching him from under a sheet like some little ghost.

“ . . . . .?”.

Watching in silence as the man-suddenly seeming a few years younger now, perhaps because of his demeanor-continued with what he was doing without any notice of her, Nill came to be rather certain that he wasn’t a ‘mean person’ as she had originally thought, not in the least; the expression that had made its way onto his face at the sight of that piece of metal was certainly proof enough of that. He seemed very happy! (Nill had never seen a ‘mean person’ that was anything but mean, and was very certainly convinced that it was their permanent setting.) In fact, he was almost strange, if only because he kept talking to himself. Not bad, mind you, just... different. There was nothing wrong with that, though, she thought ( ... )

Well-- this was a dilemma. Lucky for him it didn’t seem like this little ghost of the junkyard was going to try and steal his treasured piece of junk. Cuddling it in his arms he flinched just a little when that blanket covered head darted out of sight behind the ruble. Hm…

Sliding his scrap under one arm he - carefully began to draw quietly over. Leaning over the debris the little phantom was hiding behind the tall blond with the single swirl in his hair peered over down at the form of what he had guessed-was a homeless child.

Well this was certainly not what he was expecting. Tongue pushing the sucker to the other side of his mouth he tipped a little, “A-ah are you alright? You lost? Not a very good place to be hiding in Abyss you know… ” without holding himself reserved he reached out to clamp his hand over the fabric that hugged the top of the child’s head in a effort to lift it up so he could get a better look at the little ghost.

Despite the fact that Nill had already deemed this person as ‘not mean’, she was still a little frightened, and rightly so; she hadn’t actually met someone that was ‘nice’ in person for almost ten years, except for the homeless old man that had given her the sheet in the first place, and even then it had been rather brief. Despite this, though, there wasn’t much of a reaction when the blond-haired man started pulling the cloth away from her head, though she only let him go that far, clamping her thing fingers around the material the minute her face was revealed; she didn’t want her wings to show. It hadn’t taken her very long at all to discover that the wings, though rather pretty, were not normal, and that even seemingly nice people could be mean once they saw them. Certainly, they stuck out a bit against her back and thin frame, visible beneath the fabric, but it was impossible to tell just what, exactly, they were. It was better if he didn’t see them ( ... )

Lucky for the little ghost, this spindly young man wasn’t looking for anything on the backs of lost kids in junkyards-really he just wanted to make sure his eyes weren’t deceiving him because hell-a little girl with a cute little face like that was hard enough to believe to be alive, living in a Abyss Junkyard. Fingers gently allowed the slip of ragged fabric to drop right back on that little blonde head as the man gave a slow scan around, his guard increasing a little in case this girl was some kinda lure for something that wanted his precious scrap metal…at least it’s not like he even bothered taking his wallet down here to these depths with him ( ... )

If Nill had been any other child in Abyss-any other child-she probably would have taken that first opportunity (the second the man turned his back, if only for that brief little span of time) to run as fast and as far as she could; after all, most of the children in Abyss didn’t start out there, and had their own reasons. Most children didn’t want to be found or taken care of, and the situation wasn’t so entirely different for Nill, differing only in the fact that she didn’t want to be a burden to anyone. (not again.) But, simply following the older boy for a minute or two... that wouldn’t make her a burden, right ( ... )

The man’s eyes were still lowered to the cart as he fiddled with a few objects on it, maneuvering them off to one side as if to make some room on the surface. Once he was done apparently busying himself with it he straightened up to cast a glance over his shoulder to see that little ghost lingering a few steps closer. Poor kid, being lost out here of all places it was a miracle she wasn’t picked up already and killed, or worseEyebrows lifted as his eyes widened a little at the noise that apparently came from a empty tummy-he couldn’t help but smile with a shake of his head, “Come on you can sit on the cart here-“ A gloved hand maneuvered to the area that was bare on the hovering machine. Gently he weaved that hand forward again to sink into a pocket and pull out a plastic wrapped red lollipop which- he held out to the girl, either to tide her over before he’d make her something or-to lure her onto the cart already ( ... )

The pink flush fading just a little from her cheeks, the girl’s line of sight trailed slightly to the side and downward at the odd, hovering device, a curious expression now overtaking her features; of course, being locked up in some lab for most of her life, it wasn’t as though she’d ever really gotten the chance to see something like that before. (had most people?) But the curiosity didn’t last very long as, out of the corner of her eye, she saw the blond pull a small stick wrapped in plastic out of his pocket, and Nill knew in less than an instant what it was. A lollipop.

Candy. Ahh, yes, she was one of those terribly naïve children, one of the ones that could never think something bad of a seemingly kind person offering them candy. Pedophile? No, something like that would never cross her mind. Though still somewhat hesitantly, she stepped forward until she was about two feet away from the man and reached out one of her hands (terribly thin, from where her fingers started to where the sheer covered the rest of her body) and ( ... )

The gloved fingers released the small plastic stick into the child’s hand as he took a few steps back to walk around over to the back of that hovering device. Planting hands on a metal railing used to guide the object held it there while waiting for the little ghost, ratted sheet in tow to clamber onto it-when she did he tipped his frame over to one side to make sure she was completely on board ( ... )

The instant that the man began moving the device (Vehicle? Could it possibly be somewhere in that class, and she was simply unaware of it at that time?) Nill moved away slightly from the edge, almost as though she were afraid she might fall off; or, perhaps, that it was suddenly start flying up into the air, and she’d simply be stuck atop it. A silly response, all things considered, but there were certainly worse. After the first few moments of gliding along like that, she gradually began to unwrap the lollipop that had been given to her, looking at the obvious bright red color of the sugary treat once done before popping it into her mouth, still holding on to the little plastic stick with the middle, pointer finger, and thumb of her right hand, the wrapper now held in her left.

It wasn’t so hard to tell that he wasn’t actually talking to her when he spoke of finding her something else to wear-really, he’d been talking to himself mostly since he popped up, why would that change?-but the child looked down at her own, tattered and ( ... )
