Shikamaru didn't exactly walk to school anymore. Since his fight with Yosuke, he'd started using the journey to train instead. Itachi had taught him all kinds of things in the short time since he'd taken on Shikamaru as a student, but Shikamaru had to use his own free time to practice those things. Today... walking up buildings and jumping from rooftop to rooftop. The fog provided the perfect cover. No one would notice what he was doing even in the daylight.

And that's why he was the first one to notice the body hanging from an antenna on top of an old brownstone.

He didn't even register what he'd seen until he passed it, and then he had to backtrack. Because it couldn't be what he'd thought it was. Twisted limbs and long blonde hair, like something from his nightmares. No. He was imagining it, he ( ... )

Shikamaru was right. Hidan was still asleep on his brother’s bed and making a mess off the whole damn thing. He sure as hell wasn’t the type to wake up at - what? Ten in the morning or whenever the fuck school started? Well, he did wake after a few rings of his cell phone. A grunt and grumbling emerged from his mouth as a hand reached up to disarray his hair and rub his eyes.

"Shut...the fuck up." He grumbled at the phone as he stood and looked around the room, standing on a large array of discarded shit before he stood on his phone.

Hidan picked up his phone and scratched the back of his head, letting out a groan of annoyance and flipping it open to see his brother’s caller ID. Why the hell would Shikamaru be calling him now? Man, what? Shouldn’t the shithead be at school right now? Goddamnit, at least Shikamaru actually called him unlike that stupid blonde princess. Where the hell was he anyway? Whatever, that blonde cocksucker could look after himself. He placed the phone to his ear and let out another irritated groan.

"Yeah?" ( ... )

Thank god.

"Deidara's dead," Shikamaru blurted out as soon as Hidan answered. There wasn't any time to be gentle about it, and it gentleness wasn't Hidan's thing anyway. They could cry and rage about it later. Although... Shikamaru was already crying. It was in his voice, trembling and shot with gasps. "I don't know what happened. S-Someone killed him. I need you here, right now."

He looked around, trying to figure out what the address of the house was. In the end he just named the street and described it. "...I'm on the roof. He's-- Deidara's hanging from an antenna." He turned to look at the body again, then quickly looked away. He should wait for Hidan before trying to figure out anything else. His heart was pounding like it was ready to explode and his face had drained of color. He needed a moment to center himself again.

"...What?"

It took a while for the words to register. At first his expression was nothing but pure tiredness but when the fucking words dug deep into his useless brain Hidan hurried his way to put on a pair of jeans as he yelled into the phone, "Whoa, whoa. Shit! Are you fucking sure?" He muttered surprised, or shocked, "F-Fuck...fuck him, fuck him. God, I’m going to kill that little piece of shit!!" He words were an obvious growl as he made no hesitation to get himself to wherever Shikamaru directed him too. "Don’t you dare hang up or I’m going to rip you a new one! Just -- fucking wait until I get there ( ... )

Shikamaru stayed on the phone like he was told, but he didn't really say anything more. Didn't know what to say. He tried very hard not to cry but he choked on his breaths; this was Deidara. This was one of his best friends, his comrade, almost like a brother. Deidara who always stood up for him, against Yosuke and even against Hidan, when he didn't need to. Deidara with that confident smile that was gone now. Every time Shikamaru looked over, there was a pang in his heart. Deidara wasn't smiling. His body was twisted up and he'd died in pain and the last thing those blue eyes had seen was something unimaginably horrible. That was the expression Deidara's face wore ( ... )
