Shikamaru stayed on the phone like he was told, but he didn't really say anything more. Didn't know what to say. He tried very hard not to cry but he choked on his breaths; this was Deidara. This was one of his best friends, his comrade, almost like a brother. Deidara who always stood up for him, against Yosuke and even against Hidan, when he didn't need to. Deidara with that confident smile that was gone now. Every time Shikamaru looked over, there was a pang in his heart. Deidara wasn't smiling. His body was twisted up and he'd died in pain and the last thing those blue eyes had seen was something unimaginably horrible. That was the expression Deidara's face wore.

Suddenly Hidan was on the roof. Shikamaru didn't question how, he just slipped his phone away and reached out for him. Hugged him. "I couldn't do anything!" Shikamaru sounded more angry about this than sad, even if he was sad. "I just-- just found him like this... What am I supposed to do? I couldn't save him... He's cold..." Tears were running down his cheeks again. It wasn't fair. Last time, he'd been able to save Yosuke. He'd saved his friend, even after finding him in that gruesome state. But this time... Even after all of his hard work, why was he too late this time?

Hidan welcomed the embrace with his own -- a fucking crush was given back as he stared at the body. His body trembled with absolute fucking rage to see his best goddamn friend hanging up there like nothing but scum. And even if Hidan and Deidara fought all the time, it wasn’t like Hidan didn’t feel something for the blonde. His arms enclosed around Shikamaru and held him immensely tight, his hand cradling the back of his brother’s skull roughly and teeth gritted together, grumbling something unintelligent in his brother’s ear which were nothing but a string of cussing and swearing that was turned on the lowest volume. Why the fuck couldn’t Deidara just call him if he was in trouble! Fuck.

"Who the fuck said it was your goddamn fault!?" Hidan snapped as his grip tightened, "God-fucking - Shika. Shika, shut up, shut the hell up you didn’t do anything." Even if his words were low and harsh, they were filled with concern, as loose as it may be around the violence in his words. Violet optics locked on Deidara’s body a second time and teeth clenched together until his gums started to bleed. "Shit. I - man...Shika, just -- look, I should have been the one to --" Words were cut off and he whispered, "What the fuck are you waiting for? Call the freakin’ cops!? I’m going to get this shithead down."

Hidan was right. He couldn't let himself do this. Falling back into self-blame. He'd be crushed by the guilt and then nothing would be accomplished. He wouldn't figure out who did this. He wouldn't be able to avenge Deidara. So he had to pull himself together. Even if it was too late to save him, there was still so much he had to do. For Deidara.

He steadied his breathing and nodded, slowly drawing away from Hidan. He brushed the tears from his eyes with his sleeve. His gaze returned to Deidara. The corpse was just as he had found it. What did you see, Dei? What are you looking at? Deidara told Shikamaru he wanted to die young, but his face was telling another story. And what was the cause of death? There wasn't any blood. No burns. He wasn't strangled. Were his bones broken? There weren't any wounds on his head. Could it have been gas? Poison?

"Don't," Shikamaru said. "Don't move him. If I'm calling the cops, we can't tell them we were on the roof, it's too suspicious. And we don't know if one of them did it, or some nut from the military. If someone saw Dei's hands, they might've... or... Yeah. Come on. We have to get down to the ground."

He really didn’t want to see Shikamaru like this. Bawling his fucking eyeballs out like this. Deidara was going to get punched so fucking hard - too bad he the fucker was dead right? Hidan didn’t want to think of Deidara as dead, just passed out or something, even if his body was twisted into a revolting angle, and Hidan had seen too much of this shit, but what pissed him off more was that it was Deidara.

Involuntarily, when Shikamaru started to pull away, Hidan pulled him right back and hugged him. Fuck, fuck. Shikamaru was all that he had now, right? Why the fuck did Deidara have to die on his own like that! God, was he saying this? "Shit, I’m taking him down. Don’t fucking try and stop me. Then--" He deeply exhaled, obvious malice in his voice, "We can kill that stupid fucker Yaha." That’s who it was. That’s what Hidan thought and once again he was going to kill that shithead.

Once again he released his brother and looked up on the antenna, "And turn the fuck away! This really isn’t gonna look good!" It wasn’t that Hidan was trying to protect Shikamaru from Hidan manhandling a fucking corpse, it’s because when Hidan kicked at the base of the antenna a few times and Deidara untangled from the wires and shit, it just looked fucking gross (even for someone like Hidan who had a strong stomach). He caught the body rather effortlessly and frowned, "Tch. Come on." He muttered to Shikamaru as he leaped off the roof.

Goddammit, why didn't Hidan ever listen to him? But he knew arguing wouldn't do any good, and he didn't have the strength for it. To be honest, he wanted Deidara down from that thing as soon as possible, too. He couldn't stand the sight of him like that. He looked broken and helpless and that wasn't how he wanted to remember Deidara. Deidara wasn't like that! But the image had already burned itself into his mind. Would it ever leave?

He turned his face away. He wanted to help, but Hidan would have pushed him away regardless. Shikamaru started to dial the police station but then he paused. "Wait... Yaha?" He hadn't been thinking along those lines. He'd been so focused on Deidara's mutation as the motive. But hadn't he heard that Yaha's "pet" had run away? And hadn't Deidara then rejected Yaha right before he disappeared a few days ago? Shikamaru knew from experience how unstable Yaha was. Yaha had threatened him, too...

Shikamaru followed Hidan down from the roof, landing without a sound like a real shinobi. The fog was still thick and it looked like no one had even noticed them up there. "I'm gonna tell them we were walking by and saw him up there and then you climbed up to get him," Shikamaru told Hidan as he finished dialing finally.

"Pardon my interruption." William was not too far down the street as he walked to the two of them. A pause to glance up at the roof before returning to gaze apathetically at the two. He had thought that he felt something in this direction, but with how tired he was -- it did not matter. So long as it seemed as though he was right.

"Honestly." The tone of his voice was one of annoyance, not that it was anything else. William had come to Terra to see if Grell was doing 'her' job or not, and ended up coming across two teens interfering with his work. This was reminded him of the fiasco in Elysium where he had to convince another to let him take the corpse of a friend. "I need that body."

His scythe raised to push his glasses into place. "It is required for the Ministry of Recycling." Might as well get this conversation over with as soon as possible as he had a rather long trek to carry the body. Someone should have been alerted sooner. But with all the fog, he supposed that it made sense that no one knew that it was here. This was why the books needed to have these notifications. He let out an irritated sigh. Nothing he could do about it at this moment, and no reason to complain about it to humans -- pause as he stared at (analyzed) the blond. Hm.

Okay, who the fuck was this guy that came out of fucking no where with a huge scythe-chainsaw thing. Man, was he gonna cut off Deidara’s body or some shit? Whatever, when he heard he was from the Ministry of Recycling, there was a groan of relief that left his mouth as he dropped Deidara’s body, and forcefully kicking it towards William.

"Then do your fucking job dipshit!" He snapped at the high-and-classy shithead, pointing at Deidara’s body. He paced briefly, running a hand through his hair, blood seeping into his mouth which made him want to fucking puke. Yeah, he’d go and tell Hibari about Deidara being auctioned off, hopefully that tightass would empty his pocket - if some other cunt ended up getting their hands on Deidara…

Hidan turned to face Shikamaru, expression filled with violent worry and disdain, and he walked over to his brother. "If you get --" No wait, didn’t Shikamaru say he wanted to do shit by himself? Hell, Hidan was going after Yaha too! But, this body shit and god knows what else. "I’m trusting you." He muttered harshly, "Seriously, I’m fucking trusting you to not do anything fucking stupid!" Stupid didn’t mean to not get involved, it meant not to get killed. He exhaled deeply and scratched the back of his neck as he mumbled, "Man, if you turned out like this blonde cocksucker, don’t even want to think about it. Yeah...gonna tell our boss about it."

Why the hell was he dreading this? Shit. Hidan let out a low morose chuckle, "Fuuuck, what the hell am I doing! Should be fucking avenging that punk-ass idiot." He was more so talking to himself. Tossing his head back, he gave Shikamaru a smirk, one that was a little bit warmer but still pretty damn sullen. His shouldered trembled and he placed a hand on Shikamaru’s shoulder as he passed by. This was fucking bullshit, "Don’t fuck up! Just...yeah, call me or whatever if you need me and shit."

Shikamaru's heart dropped to his stomach at the sound of the stranger's voice. His head snapped in the direction of the man and at that introduction-- "I need that body. It is required for the Ministry of Recycling."-- his expression only darkened. It looked like Deidara had won the lottery of the afterlife, but in Shikamaru's opinion, the death auctions were worse than death by itself. If they let Deidara go, then he might wake up a slave to some pervert like--

Oh hell no.

What if Yaha had killed Deidara for this exact purpose?

"I'm not going to die," Shikamaru said to Hidan. Snapped, actually. He was furious. When he looked up at the feeling of a hand on his shoulder, his bloodshot eyes were burning. "That bastard's going to pay."

But first there was the matter of this bastard. The one who wanted to take Deidara's body. "Are we just going to let this guy take him?" Shikamaru uttered. "What if we're messing up what Dei wanted? Hidan, I don't think he'd want this. Getting brought back, getting put on auction. And we haven't even called the cops yet! If his body's gone, then the investigation is completely dropped. They won't even look for the killer."

Shikamaru stepped forward, putting himself between the Omega's agent and Deidara. "Look, Mr Recycling, you're going to have to wait at least until the police get here. This guy's my friend and justice needs to be served."

Staring at the body that had been kicked in his direction, he reached down to grab onto the corpse's arm -- intent on eventually lifting it into his arms to carry to the Ministry. "Thank you."

No real comment on "doing his job," because that required explaining that he would like to do it if people did not constantly get in the way of something so simple as carrying a body to Elysium for processing. If he had anything to say about the decision of murder to someone else, he did not offer any. Really. It was not any of his concern if these people decided to kill someone. Unless it was on his list. Which he really did not know. Teeth set in place, ready to grind. All these petty little emotions were really very annoying, but it seemed like he would be rid of them soon.

At least, that was his intent until he had a living body in the way.

Straightening his posture, he stared down at the other with an obvious look of disdain. "Do not presume that you can order me around. The justice of the living does not concern me." His glasses were adjusted by the tip of his scythe. "You would not have even come across this body if it had not been for the fog. I apologize for the inconvenience of such discovery."

It was very obvious that he was outright disregarding the concerns that both may have had about the body. The only reason that he waited for them to finish and at least begin to hand the body over to him was because he would rather not have to deal with any more unnecessary arguments or accusations should he try to leave with it. If he was constantly held up, it would eventually show on his record. Maybe not a "real" one, but one that was in his head.

"Honestly. Would you rather that your friend remain dead?" There was no kindness or empathy for the situation, just trying to ask a question that he believed would allow him to complete a simple pick-up job. He started to move to walk around the teen, not really giving him any time to answer as he considered the answer obvious. Regardless of the brief argument about interfering with his job that had gone on just a few moments before, which he had chosen to ignore.

Muttering to himself. "Really. Humans never cease being troublesome to me."

Death auctions? Really, Hidan had no opinion on it. He was never fucking up on one of those pedicles and having cash thrown around him -- so he really didn’t give a shit. He just wanted Deidara alive so he could kill him for dying like a dumbshit he was. And now, now it seemed like he had to put his own fucking gooey brains to the test in this sort of shitty situation. But when he saw Shikamaru’s expression, something filled Hidan’s that was nothing but pure feral instinct.

"Yeah Shika, we’re gonna let this fucking piece of shit take Deidara’s useless shitbag body." He muttered with a smug expression and lazy shrug, his lips pursed and then slowly his body started to tremor as a surge of half-insane laughter emerged from the base of his throat. "Fuck justice! Holy fuck Shika, grow some fucking balls! God, you can’t reply on the goddamn cops for every piece of shit! Seriously! Fucking hell they’ll just sit on their goddamn ass, so you’re just going to have to do it by your-goddamn-self!"

Suddenly feeling like some preacher from the anti-christ church, he placed a hand over his eyes as lips curled upwards into a full grin, "What, are you saying you don’t want this stupid princess to be alive again given the chance? Jeez, what a fucking great friend you are. And you know, if some other cunt buys him then why don’t we just fucking kill him too? Give him divine punishment like the type Yaha is going to receive!"

A deep groan, "Fuck the cops, fuck them. Who the hell needs the damn cops when your fucking brother is in the fucking mob?! You think they’re just gonna stand there and let their own member get killed?!" Another deep laugh, "Ha ha ha!! Oh man!! Whoever killed Deidara is going to be in deep shit!!"

Of course Shikamaru didn't want Deidara to stay dead. But he couldn't just think about what he wanted. Yes, he wanted his friend back, wanted him back as soon as possible. But he remembered all the things Deidara had said, the importance of impermanence to him. If only they'd had more time to talk, then he might know what to do right now. He just didn't want to make a mistake while he had the chance to do the right thing.

But what was the right thing? What Hidan said was true. Shikamaru knew it better than anyone else from working at the station every day. Most of the police were crooked. Hell, Yaha was the main suspect and he was one of them. But if Shikamaru gave up on the justice system, gave up on all the things his dad had taught him about the law and about good, then what was he left with?

Shikamaru looked from Deidara to Hidan, then at the reaper. If he gave the body up, Deidara would come back to life, but they'd never know for sure who had done this unless Deidara remembered it himself. Which he wouldn't, from what Shikamaru already knew about those who ended up auctioned. There would be no investigation, the killer would be free to kill again, and this would just keep happening.

Unless he and Hidan put a stop to it themselves. Wasn't it obvious who had done it? Even the motive was clear. No one would know Shikamaru found the body, so they had a head start. If Yaha turned up dead, no one would know who had done it. This agent would never talk. They never did. They were the Omega.

"Fine," Shikamaru muttered darkly, stepping aside. "How long before he goes up for auction?"

A brief glance to Hidan, listening to the other's rant. His expression didn't change from the vague annoyed look that he had. Did he really have to stand and listen to all of this babble on affairs that did not concern him? It seemed as though he would if he did not want to have a fight on his hands over a corpse. "Honestly. I would rather not feel like a common body snatcher." He muttered, more to himself than at the two. Letting out an annoyed sigh, it seemed like he was finally allowed to do his job.

Stepping forward, the clippers of his scythe snapped out to grab onto the back of Deidara's -- as that seemed to be the blond's name -- neck. It lifted the body with relatively no ease before snapping back towards the reaper; who would carry the body much like one would a deranged flag. William reminded himself that he had a change of clothes at the Ministry building should any bits come off onto him. Could have hefted him over his shoulder, but with transit, pieces might eventually fall off before he actually got to where he must be. If anything, he wanted the body to be as intact as it must be for recycling, but what got what what got. They would always replace the bits lost -- beggars should not be choosers.

So much trouble.

"That is not my department." He finally answered now that he had the body in his possession. "But if they are doing their job, it might be as early as tomorrow. Good day. Once more, I apologize for the inconvenience." A brief bow of his head to the two. Like he could worry about his subordinate and all the other groups that ran the Ministry. Before he would be caught in another argument with the two, he jumped from the sidewalk to the nearest rooftop -- with mild jostling of the body -- to the next; finally heading to Elysium.

Usually, Hidan was pissed one way or another. But right now, at this moment, he was just looking like a smug bastard. Seemed as though his whole lecture got through that retarded skull and pierced that shitty brain. That was good. Hidan was pretty damn proud of himself by convincing Shikamaru to do what he wanted -- and it was easily shown by the pursing of lips that pulled into a wide smirk. So he wasn’t that fucking stupid, Hidan just thought of different things that worked on irrational gears.

Hell, he didn’t even give a fuck if Deidara was dead anymore. That bastard will be back, and when he does, he was going to lose a few (dozen) teeth and have a bruised face for longer than a month. Hidan paced around Shikamaru, and then cackled a bit, turning his head to see that Omega cocksucker saying some bullshit that wasn’t even that interesting to listen to and flipped him off. Goddamnit, Hidan should have killed that bastard when he had the chance and steal Deidara’s body...heh.

That would’ve been pretty funny. For one reason or another.

"Tch, what a dumbfuck." He muttered after the Omega guy pissed off and looked down at Shikamaru. God, wasn’t he meant to say something nice or something? Well, he could fucking try right? After all, Shikamaru got it through his head that personal vengeance was the best sort of punishment. Hidan was just better with physical shit than vocal, "Aw man." He scratched the back of his head, "Fuck this! God, that guy fucking pisses me off!" He snapped, pointing at where William was, "I’m going to rip that cunt’s throat out next time I see him, seriously!" Hidan yelled.

An acute inhale, and he said to Shikamaru, "All right...all right, so. What now?" A stern expression displayed itself, "Oh, right. You’re going to go after that tranny." A snort of disapproval, "Fuck, whatever. Whatever." Oh man, why was this so fucking hard?! "Go on then, try to do some shit by yourself since you want to so damn hard." Damnit, he wasn’t meant to say this! Fucking mouth running off as usual. He exhaled darkly and placed his hands in his pockets.

He grunted with some sort of awkward frustration and then placed his hands on Shikamaru’s shoulders - the grip at first was almost bone breaking until his body uncoiled. "Yeah, I’m gonna be worried shitless about you! I hope that makes you happy!" So he, yeah, maybe he should just shut up. Which he did, after he removed his hands from Shikamaru’s shoulders and grumbled under his breath, "I’m going to call the dumbass boss, see what the fuck he could do with this auction shit. Then I’m going to bust Yaha’s ass. You got it? I’m not taking 'no fuck off Hidan' as a answer!...or whatever."

As early as tomorrow, the reaper said. Shikamaru looked away, not wanting to watch as the body was hauled away in case it made him want to change his mind. I'm sorry, Dei, he apologized silently as he lowered his eyes. You'll have to live to be a little older. I'm too selfish to say goodbye yet.

He was left alone with Hidan, and suddenly he was aware of the great big void. For a while now, it had been the three of them dealing with problems like these. They were all comrades when preparing to go up against the military. A team of three. That just seemed like how it was supposed to be. Now they were reduced to two, and pretty soon Shikamaru would go off on his own.

Hidan wasn't pleased about that. Shikamaru looked up at him when he felt those hands on his shoulders. "It's just Yaha," he murmured. "I have my shadows. He won't even know what hit him." Was he really doing this? Was he capable of killing someone... just like that? But every time he thought of Deidara's empty eyes, his body displayed like that with such grotesque disrespect, he knew he could. For justice, he could.

As early as tomorrow... He would have to make sure there was no way Yaha could have access to the auction. Until then, he had to go to school and make everything seem normal. That way he'd avoid suspicion later. "Deal with your boss," he told Hidan. "I need to get to school, class already started. Look, if you're worried about me, just call me. And definitely call me if the auction starts. I want to know when he's bought, okay?" And if anything went wrong, then Hidan would know because he wasn't answering his phone. That was the best he could do. If Hidan insisted on coming with him for the confrontation, then his plan wouldn't work.

Unlike Shikamaru who was mentally mourning Deidara, Hidan was mentally screaming and yelling as his top row of teeth dug into the soft flesh of his bottom lip until the meat blossomed softly with crimson. His fists were clenched at his sides and head lowered with anger surging through ever inch of him. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Shikamaru to not be careful, more like he didn’t trust that shithead Yaha to just lay down and fucking die like the creep he was.

A deep breath and he arched his back, a deep groan and the ball of his palm rubbed an eyesocket painfully - though really, it didn’t seem all that painful, the immense tension he felt died down soon enough. Really though, Hidan knew that Shikamaru could fucking kill. The little shit found out he had his powers of shadows or whatever the hell they were - and yeah, he was the brother of a psychopath killer anyway. So why the hell shouldn’t Shikamaru be able to kill him.

His anger started to dull down to nothing but not giving a shit, "Whatever..." He murmured, almost sullenly, and then there was the rage there once again, "WHATEVER! FINE, FUCK OKAY YOU DO IT!" And damn, it was pretty damn obvious that Hidan wanted to bash in that faggot face once again. It was all pretty overwhelming, because instead on acting on impulses he usually did, he actually had the muster the small amount of brain cells he had left to actually think!

"Okay, okay. You fucking do it. Just call me when you actually kill him, got it?" He demanded harshly even if it was just some stupid retarded whisper. Goddamnit, he felt so damn restless, and yeah, so he just idly kicked a bit of rubble on the road and avoided Shikamaru’s gaze. "You owe me, seriously." He muttered under his breath and he turned to Shikamaru. Okay, what was he meant to do now apart from piss off? Right, right. Comfort, comforting was always good, wasn’t it? Well, least he could give it a fucking shot. Hidan made his way to Shikamaru and wrapped his arms around his younger brother, his hold on him was tense but not all that rough, and he muttered with clear hate. "Don’t you dare let that bastard touch you. Or whatever the fuck, like that shitty pedo crap. Whatever." And with a squeeze, he released Shikamaru and fucked off like he was meant too.
