I'm so proud of and pleased with HTP's performance of Julius Caesar this weekend. I feel like I should go on at great length about how fabulous the whole process was and how awesome the actors were and so on and so forth and about how this was one of the best plays our club has had in years and how much we all gained from the experience. But, you know, I feel like I have it so happily settled in my heart and mind that that is enough for me. To go on about it is unnecessary because anyone who was there already understands and the details individually cannot reproduce the overall positive energy and experience of it.
To somewhat copy Phoebe's list, here are some of the useful theater things I learned/remembered how to do during the course of this production:
hang lights
cable the lights
tie a clove hitch
prep lights for focus
focus lights
read a light plot
call focus
lighting/tech terminology (or, at least how to say the terms, if not how to spell them)(par, source four, ellipsoidal, tilt, pan, squid, drop, God bolt/nut, elec 1-4, border, twofer, Edison plug, barrel (run in, run out), gobo rotater, lock, expansion slot, source, fill, pivot, frost, cut, bar heavy, load, spin the bottle, drop the color, etc.)
get up to the cat walks and what to do there
get up to the grid and what to do there
let the drops up and down
work the fly/pin rail
work an impact driver screw gun
secure platforms to a stage
not fall off a high ladder while leaning out, switching sides, and generally making awkward movements
give myself a five o'clock shadow with Earl Grey tea and hair gel
stage combat (deliver/receive a fake gut punch, knee to the face, pile driver, hair pull, choke, various kicks, various stabs)
be a bum
be quite insane
And, last but not least, bum for change.
Pretty impressive, if I do say so myself.
Huzzah to the cast and crew of Julius Caesar!
Now, I was originally planning on heading home today, but I just called my folks and changed plans. I'm going to stay on campus until I can't take it anymore and then head directly over to my grandparents in NH for Easter, where my family will be from late Fri night until Sun night. I decided to do it this way for several reasons:
It saves my dad 6 hours of driving after a long week of 24/7 hospitalist work.
I'm 95% sure I would have gotten nothing done at home and I have a lot to do.
My roommate isn't here, so I have a nice, solitary dingle for the week.
I've never really stayed on campus during a break before.
I would love the chance to hang out with Frances and Brenda, who are both staying for the break.
There's a chance I can find time to paint Phoebe properly and attend to a certain other on-campus project that I've been wanting to spend time on.
I have had a headache and been physically "off" for quite a few days now and I don't feel up to a 3 hour car ride.
I have a bus ticket already payed for from Boston to NH, so I might as well use it.
There will probably be another post to come later today.
I can't let myself forget that I have two over-due papers to write asap, too.
