I haven't had anytime to update because I have been obsessed with Diner Dash. It's a sad and formidable addiction, and I am trying not to play too much, but I have neglected not only posting on my own blog but reading my regularly-read blogs of friends. Sigh. I need to calm down.

Anyway, I have also been busy with other things. We finally are all done getting new windows, thank Jesus. They are nice and easy to open and shut, and seem to be doing ok keeping the cold in when we have the a/c on. Which is all I can really ask for. I have been told by window dude we should see the biggest difference in my son's room, because the windows up there were exceptionally crappy. Next up: My husband's torturous decision to remove all the old chipping paint from our kitchen walls before we re-paint them. Argh. I just want to paint, already, but there is no point if the paint underneath it is just going to chip it all off. Cheap-ass paint, hopefully it's not lead. The husband is vacuuming it up as he does it, but still. Lead = bad.

The kids and I went to dinner at one of my son's friend's house the other night and I had TWO glasses of wine and didn't feel tipsy at all. This was an exciting development, since I recently have had no tolerance for booze whatsoever. I'm pretty sure I did ok this time around because I had a full stomach, I drank lots of water with the wine, and the wines were not too horribly strong (one was a lovely sangria that came in a gallon bottle, and the other was a sweet dessert wine). It would be nice to have a drink or two without getting a headache or feeling dizzy or having my right arm go a little tingly. I'm 35 years old, for God's sake, and not a lightweight by any stretch of the imagination, so I think my tolerance should be better than the average person. But then again, I take prescription medication on a regular basis, so that probably has something to do with it. Ahem. Moving on.

The kids and I went to a birthday party last weekend and there was no "safe" cake for my daughter to eat, so I did something I have not tried since she was diagnosed with a peanut allergy almost three years ago; I let her have a little piece of the birthday cake that was being served. It came from a bakery, and I was hoping the chance of cross-contamination was low. I only allowed her to have a small piece, and the Hoodsie she ate it with was indeed safe so I figured the risk was low. She was fine for the rest of the day, including a dinner out that night with some of my in-laws, who were visiting from out of town. She had a little gastrointestinal upset the next day, but by then the cake should have long passed so I'm guessing it was something else. Hard to say. But I am most definitely having her tested again for the peanut allergy at the end of the month when we go for her annual visit to the pediatrician. I don't normally throw caution to the wind but sometimes I feel bad that she can't eat what all the other kids are having. If her peanut allergy level is still high, then I will be as vigilant as I have been before and not take any chances again. We have a birthday party tomorrow and I am toying with the idea of baking her some cupcakes. I think I will.

My son has been in baseball camp all week and not around whining that he is bored. He comes home filthy and tired (although not filthy on the days it rained - they went to an indoor batting area on those days). This morning I noticed he was not too careful in the shower and still had some dirt on him, sigh. I sincerely hope other parents understand that he is seven years old and we can't shower with him, and even though we tell him to scrub and try to check on him while he is in the shower, it's still ultimately up to him to clean himself. I can only imagine what it's going to be like when he hits puberty and starts to stink.

My friend Mish (the one with the new baby) drives like a maniac. I asked my husband about this, since he has known her longer than I have, and he said it was her older brother's bad influence. Yikes. I hit the imaginary brake at least once when I was driving with her this week. Fortunately we didn't get into an accident when some moron pulled out in front of her and she barely had enough time to slow down. I was born and raised and learned how to drive in the crazy commonwealth of Massachusetts and yet she still manged to scare me. Take from that what you will. Her baby daughter is very cute and we had a great time together otherwise, so at least it was worth it.
