Is it me or is it warmer in here?

We have four new windows and I am a little more excited about them than I should be. Right now, two of the new ones in the living room are open, but supposedly when they are closed, they are going to cut back on the road noise we hear. We live on a kind of busy road, so I am interested in seeing how this works. Our window dude is supposed to come back next week to work on the rest. They are nice-looking windows that open to the inside of the house should I ever want to clean the outsides. Which, as I pointed out to my husband, I NEVER did in our condo because I don't give a shit about my windows unless someone eggs them or something.

This week has been another one of those with tropical weather, which is annoying. I live in New England, for Christ's sake, not Florida. If I wanted potential flooding and continual thunderstorms, I wouldn't be living here. WHINE. I also have multiple mosquito bites and a rather substantial flare-up in my eczema, so maybe I'm just crabbier than usual because I'm so damned itchy. Curse you, ragweed!

Because I am a worn-out housewife/homemaker who is counting the days until school starts, the kids and I spent the first two days of this week next door with our neighbors and their new puppy. I was too damn lazy to plan anything else, which I am not proud of, but I never thought I would be a cruise director all summer long, ugh. The kids all ran around in a giant shrieking pack and Jack and the puppy rolled all over the yard together. Monday wasn't too bad weatherwise, and Tuesday it wasn't raining, which was good enough for us to be outside. My neighbor S and I tried to guess what the dude-who-used-to-not-mow-his-lawn is up to now, because a dumpster appeared in his yard this week. He has kept up with the mowing, and the word "LOVE" is still carved out in his lawn. We're wondering if he's cleaning the place out to put it on the market, although real estate is still in the crapper around here. The house sits on six acres of land, so he could sub-divide it and sell it off that way. Or he might just sell the house along with the acre or so it sits and and sub-divide the rest, or sell it to the tree farm next door to him. All I care about is that there have been no ticks on the dog or the kids or my husband recently. I keep meaning to write a thank you email to our city's health agent but my brain functions at half-mast on a good day.

I am done with my kids back-to-school shopping and you know what? I think I spent less than last year because I got a bunch of stuff at the second-hand store, KMart, and on sale with coupons at Kohl's and Gymboree. Plus my mom got them nice sneakers on sale. I washed their spring coats and they are in great condition, so those will be their fall coats, and we got their winter coats on clearance last year. Barring any unusual growth spurts, they should be all set. But that fucking mall was a zoo on Wednesday because it was raining so hard and clearly there were lots of people on vacation with NOTHING ELSE TO DO.

Jesus I am all over the place and rambling today. We have an extremely busy weekend coming up so I should probably stop now.

neighbors, weather, oh the itch, kids, house
