Eurolife: Day 4

The grand finale in Rome today....We parted ways with Tim and Pat pretty early today. They had an earlier train to catch out to Florence. Bryan and I took off for the Vatican Museum, most famously known for being home to the Sistine Chapel. The museum was intense. After it was all done we had been there about three hours and I was overloaded with art. The Sisttine Chapel was breathtaking. The rest of the afternoon was spent wandering around other areas of rome in which we did not get to visit the other two days. Overall Rome was kinda dirty and rundown, but at the same time, its been around longer than most cities on the face of this planet, so it gets a pass. We spent three days in Rome and it seemed to be the perfect ammount of time for us to see what we wanted to, and get out before it got boring.

This evening we jumped on a train to Florence, Italy. We checked into our hostel, which is really a hotel, and a very nice one at that. Tomorrow we meet Bob [study abroad program head honcho] at 10 am, for a tour of all the best spots in the city. Should be enjoyable.

One of the things I am enjoying most about traveling is learning to communicate with people when there is a language gap. I only know a few words/phrases in italian, but hand gestures and body language is proving to be quite useful. It really is amazing how much you can say by actually saying nothing. And THAT is as deep as things are going to get tonight.

Tip of the day: When traveling Europe via train, book your seats ahead of time (even if you have a eurail pass) to avoid standing in the asles for two hours. NOTE* bryan and i DID book ours ahead of time, just FYI for everybody. *tomorrows will be better i promise.
