Eurolife: Day 5

Scotland better watch out, over his shoulder, coming up quickly is the absolutely beautiful tuscany region of Italy.

Florence is incredible. While Rome was very enjoyable, Florence is just so much more romantic and open, being the capital of all thing rennisance will do that to a city. Today we met up with Bob (the man who runs the st. marys study abroad programs in London and here in Florence) for a great tour of the city. Bob is one of those people who can talk for hours and has countless stories about every area of town. Picture a man who is about 65 years old, weighs in at 110 tops, and stands 6 feet tall and you have Bob. He crusied around town pointing and taking, filling our heads with knowledge. It was wonderful. Besides that he took us out to lunch, which was a surprising nice chinese meal which ended with an eye-opening shot of weird liquor.

We said goodbye to Bob after that and took off for the art gallery whos main attraction is Michaelangelo's 'David.' Over the last few months (and days in Rome) I have seen some remarkable art, masterpieces even, but nothing compares to what I saw today in 'David.' The intricate detail put into every square centimeter of this giant statue is just jaw-dropping. I cant believe what I saw today.

After that we took a bus up into the hills to vist the area that the SMU florence study abroad group will be staying in this spring. I am quite jellous of what they have here. Im not saying that I would take Florence over London, (although I might) its just that its such a different culture and a beautiful area. Those kids are a lucky bunch.

The night was spent walking around town, as it is breathtaking in the dark as well.

Tomorrow we have one more full day in the city then Bryan and I board a 'sleeper' train to Munich at around 8pm tomrorow. We will arrive at approx 6 am the next day. Hopefully I will be able to log on before the train and get a quick blog in. If not...wake me up, ill be the one sleeping on the train to munich.

Tip of the Day: While purchasing ANYTHING in a store in Italy, if you dont need a bag, dont accept one, they charge you 5 cents for it!
