We have a Victorian tea scheduled this weekend, a private event for alumnae of a local college. Official opening is at the beginning of April, and then at the end of the month we're reopening the haunt for a one-night special event for attendees of this year's HauntCon. Friday night was rather slow, but Saturday picked up considerably and ran quite late.  As is usual, attrition has left us with fewer spooks already than we had on opening weekend; unfortunately, a lot of these kids volunteer without realizing that they're going to be spending the next month of Fridays and Saturdays on their feet for five or six ( Read more... )

It was a rather slow, albeit steady, opening night crowd. No catastrophes, no one exceptionally drunk or disorderly, and maybe even a few who'll come back in the daylight for a proper tour.

Season premiere definitely had its moments, but it still left me feeling somewhat unsettled. Brennan's Flanderization continues, and the fact that so many fans saw a dynamic that the creators did not (and seemed surprised about) is also unsettling to me. Volunteer dinner was tonight (about which I will blog later), but the cake? Genuine, bona fide cake wreck. "Manison" instead of "Mansion" and random blops of brown icing trailing off the front edge. Our site director is leaving. We knew it was coming--she's been planning her retirement for quite a while--but the date was always uncertain. The party's this Saturday, and I suspect there will be weeping. Some of it from me. :(

It was a reasonably productive weekend. At my own house, maybe not so much, but at the Mansion I was quite productive. I washed windows and hung curtains, swept the gift shop and cleaned the glass countertops and wiped down shelves. One last note on the urn story: I was able to find a photo of the house to which it was moved, with the urn visible on the lawn to its right. It was taken ca. 1910, so about a decade after the urn was placed.
