Good Lord, WHY HASN'T JACK SHOT THEM ALL BY NOW FOR INSUBORDINATION?!

As a former con-man, shouldn't he be better at people-managing?

Their behavior is why the Doctor never thought much of humans defending themselves in the first place. They are so gullible and pathetic and absolutely refuse to listen to *anyone*! C'mon, even a messed-up shadow institution needs to be able to govern itself.

The penultimate episode was the best of the season. Jack was still melancholic, but for the first time on the show, it felt like an organic development from his "Who" character. Emotionally, he has remained in 1941, when the Doctor whisked him away and changed everything. It's the time of gas mask zombies, which he held himself accountable for and was prepared to pay for it with his life. It's when he stole the identity of a conveniently dead man and never returned it. (Are these why he can forgive so much bullshit? His so-called colleagues' fuckups have been worse than that! What did he do as a Time Agent? This show needs its moral compass re-aligned.)

Tosh was so sympathetic in that ep and she turns on him the next? WTF? Owen is scum and Gwen is moronic so I expect it from them, but Ianto and Tosh do seem capable of learning. So far, Tosh has been the least repugnant of the employees. Tosh is so lonely, ignored, and vulnerable that she is easy to manipulate. She has yet to do anything as damaging as the rest. Clearly Jack hasn't bothered to train his group against psychic/psychological manipulation. And Ianto - since when did he become Jack's part-time shag?! That's not unhealthy at all!

While Billis was effectively creepy - could he be an evil Time Lord? - the cheesy CGI monster was embarrassing. New Who S2 gave us Satan and Torchwood gets ... the unpainted prototype of the villain from "Legend". How was Jack offering up to be eaten an effective strategy? I give up.

The redeeming moment was when Jack hears the beautiful, beautiful sound of the TARDIS. I grinned in relief just as he did. I felt so sorry for him, all these decades (centuries? millenia even?) taking the long path to reunite with the Doctor, putting up with this nonsense. Good thing he's immortal. Run away, Jack! Flee from these horrible, horrible, people! Be free!
