Oh hell. I have a cat with a fairly newly-diagnosed diabetes. We're still in the process of trying to figure out how much insulin she needs. So far, it has been a fairly tedious process of us increasing her insulin by a tiny amount, measuring insanely high blood sugar levels, increasing the insulin...
A few days ago, she suddenly jumped from our last result of "blood sugar so high you'd rush a human to the hospital" to "blood sugar so low you'd rush a human to the hospital" after us increasing her insulin by the same tiny amount that usually doesn't really change much. So the vet told us to go back down to the previous, insufficient dose, and we were planning to measure her again in a couple days and see what had happened.
Tonight, she suddenly went completely insane. We thought at first there was a mouse in the house, because she'd just had a fairly huge meal, and she's never had problems on this dose, but after fifteen minutes of her running around sniffing all the walls like a crazy cat, I finally grabbed her and measured, just for my own peace of mind. 16. That is really, really low. That is way lower than the blood sugar of crazy ranting diabetic lady from two posts ago. If I'd decided to go to bed and leave her hunting her imaginary mouse, I would have gotten up to a dead kitty. OH GOD LJ I ALMOST KILLED MY CAT. D:
I've giver her a couple vials of glucose solution to drink now, but she's still chasing that invisible mouse. I'll wait another half an hour and hope the glucose starts working, otherwise I guess I'll have to pack her off to the vet.
Be okay, kitty, I love you. :(
