Travelled to Nottingham last night with P to see the splendiferous Arcade Fire. Journey did not start well - accident blocking the road, stuck for half an hour till they moved it.
Then we met the hell that is the Nottingham one-way system. Impossible and made even worse by a complete absence of road signs. Plus we travelled through all the really grim bits.
Nottingham Arena is in the middle of town and is pretty grotty. One bar for the standing area and nowhere to get anything to eat etc. And it was very hot.
Problem with big gigs like this is that when you are a short-arse (i.e. me) it is very difficult to get a view of anything without having to do a lot of tippytoes and neck craning.
They did have screens and projections though, so I got to see a little. One of the best things about this band is watching them - swapping instruments, hitting each other etc, so it would have been good to see more of that. The keyboard player/guitarist is a complete nutter and came on at the end with a sparkler in his mouth. They wore Halloween masks to start with as well.
Great music, good visuals, crap venue. Band didn't like it much either - Win Butler did say "We are never playing Nottingham again." *G*
