Saimoe 2010: Nagi vs Mafuyu

Oct 08, 2010 22:36

Winner: Nagi (Hayate)

The ojou-sama managed to finally take down the dark horse of Saimoe 2010, as Mafuyu ends her surprisingly long run. And with that we have a first in Saimoe history- a former runner-up returning to the semifinals. In fact this is the first time a former semifinalist has returned to the semifinals. Two others of our Final Eight girls have also made the semifinals once before, & they’re both competing against each other this round- Shana & Nodoka. Either way, one of them will be joining Nagi in making Saimoe history.

As far as Nagi’s match went, I’m surprised it wasn’t closer. In fact these results were quite low for a quarterfinal match. Where were Mafuyu’s fans during this, or is it just that the two girls largely share the same fanbase- otaku who like otaku girls? Anyway, I’m just happy that the first of four remaining girls I want to win has won. Azunyan has been my #1 pick since the beginning, but I’d be happy with Nagi, Shana, or Nodoka winning as well. Here’s the full results for today’s match:

Quarter Final 1
1st 721 Nagi Sanzenin @ Hayate The Combat Butler
2nd 531 Mafuyu Shiina @ Seitokai No Ichizon

Here are two characters whose success and popularity confuse me. Koromo is arguably the most popular “Saki” character, and two back-to-back years of doing well in Saimoe seems to back that up. Meanwhile, Saten has pretty much been the top-performing fighter this whole tournament. Don’t get me wrong, I like both girls well enough, but they’re both far from being my favorites from their respective series. Neither of them are one of the four girls I’d like to see win, but in the end I guess I’ll go with Saten-san as my vote to move on. As far as whom I think will win this, well, it’s a pretty tough call. As I’ve said already, both these girls have surprising success in this tournament. You really can’t underestimate either one of them. But with Saten showing some of the best numbers of the year, I guess I’ll go with her as my prediction as well. Really hard to say for sure, though.
